Hello
Have anyone tried 23mm torsion bars for road use? Will they be to stiff?
Running 21mm now, and i dont think they are stiff enough.
Does anyone make 22mm?

I think you can get 21.5s from a partner van or something?

I believe the Partner vans use 21mm, if I remember correctly. Yes

I am currently running 21mm, and they seem fine to me. I also have a 30mm anti-roll bar, solid beam mounts, KW dampers and lowered 40mm from standard. Tyres are R888's, and the back-end seems planted.

What other mods have you had done to the rear beam?

Think partner bars are 21.3 but they aren't wide enough for 306 beams, they use them on 205s I think

21mm is the largest you can get from factory fit that will fit our beams but i'm sure you can get bigger custom made

Not too bad really when you think 10-15 year old xsara bars sell for £80-120

I found 23.5mm bars miles too stiff for road use, back end used to take off over spee bumps, and back end traction over bumpy roads was a bit arse twitchery. On fast smooth roads (aka race tracks) they were brilliant, but I wouldn't use them for road use, stick to 21mm.

That was with standard KW V2's, probably massively under damped. I have the same on my BTCC 306 and on the odd occasion I 'test' it up and down my road the back end still takes of over speed bumps, and thats with perfectly balanced Penske shocks...

I use KW V2's on 21mm bars, excellent fast road setup IMO. Yes

Im running on solid rear mounts and the car is fitted with Supersport coilovers. 21mm tbs and 24mm arb. Will soon fit Bilstein b6 and hybrid arb. Maybe that will help?

In my opinion the 30mm ARB does make a massive difference to the rear-end. Yes

It really compliments the rest of the mods to the rear beam I have found. If you fit the hybrid ARB you will see a positive difference, but personally I would go for the 30mm. Smile

Is there much difference with the 21mm bars over the standard 19mm gti6 bars? I have a spare beam here I am thinking of rebuilding with bigger torsion bars and solid mounts along with my koni shocks. Will mainey be for road use with the occassional track day. What do you all recomend?

Eddy - The standard bars are 20mm not 19mm. Yes
The difference every 1mm makes on size is roughly 25% stiffer, so yes, there is quite a large difference. Thumbs up
