I have recently purchased a lovely modified GTi-6. It has throttle bodies, catcams, omex 600, freeflow manifold, decat, exhaust etc.

It is for daily use while i carry out some maintenece on my other car, i was only looking for a standard one really but got carried away.

I have had cars with throttle bodies before and found they are not much more thirsty driving carefully but will tend to drink it when opened up as you'd expect. Currently, although i haven't done lots of miles yet, a careful 40 mile drive - mainly motorway at 60-70 mph is seeing 24mpg.

What do people get with this sort of set up?

From Jonnie perhaps from ebay for about 2k?

To be fair the standard does F-all mpg at about 28-29 average.

The car was originally modified by pug1off. I have spoken to Matt there a few times who has been very helpful, really nice bloke.

The map was checked and altered last year by Advanced Motorsport which produced 174bhp at the wheels. I don’t know what it was originally as I don’t have that paperwork.

When driving slow, pulling up and stopping, you car really smell fuel. I think it’s over fuelling too much and Matt recommended I get it check by Northampton motorsport as he thinks it should really do around 10% less than standard mpg as a guide.

24mpg 60-70 mph driving suggests an everyday 20mpg or less average which seems really quite low. Its going to cost me about £300 est to get it checked and adjusted but before I spill out more cash I want a good idea I will get an improvement rather than waste money.

Its £90 + VAT an hour, expecting a 2 hour window for setup, check and minor adjustment. I'm also calculating in the 170 mile round trip. It can only go up from there really.

Who is sandy? Who mapped your car and do you have cams as well?

Sandy Brown is a race engine builder and mapper

He mapped Dan's standard gti6 engine on Jenvey throttle bodies.

note, Dan is not a smooth driver and is very heavy with his right foot, I got more mpg from the same car driving just as quick point to point

Well my mapping session cost in the region of £400, after fuel and expenses (drink and biscuits for Meirion). After not been anywhere else, I would honest not go anywhere else now.

With regards to 6/Rallye MPG, i see around 400+ to a tank which is about 35mpg? Thats obviously steady but not complete miss daisy driving.

I look after a car mind used rarely that was mapped at North. Motorsport and it's pretty poor to say the least, it was done around 8 years ago but re-mapped 4 ish years ago then never used since as nothing really improved, That never made huge power considering the spec and this has been on other rollers to double check the figures.

I've used allot of mappers and had car's from various people and with Omex I've yet to find anyone better than K Tech Racing in Verwood as he's a ex Omex man has has developed a ECU for the Multiplex Renaults along with keeping all the dash lights off, so he knows the systems inside and out.

174bhp with that spec is very poor (Cam Spec depending), But looking at the Wiring (assuming it was the car above) of a mix match of std ECU plugs and Omex loom is never a good idea.
