Very interesting guesses. Just to remind you, the GT28RS supports up to 350bhp. Here is a pic of the VEMS ECU: Since a major change was performed in the engine, and I am working with a stand alone ECU - i needed some gauges: SPA Technique dual boost and EGT: SPA Technique dual fuel and oil pressure: SPA Technique dual intercooler in/out air temp: AEM Wideband (the VEMS also has a WD - so i am running 2 WDs) AEM Tru Boost - boost control: Small voltmeter: KS-3 knock detection system: Hella tire pressure monitoring system (very informative - i have this one 4 years by now): oil and water temp i have in the gauge cluster itself. The original XSI did not have an oil temp gauge so i replaced it with a GTI6 gauge cluster. The wiring for the Oil temp exists in the XSI, and also a place for an OEM gauge, they got cheap in XSI the cluster itself. So now you are probably wondering how did i manage to get all the stuff into the car without turning it to a pile of ugly rubbish in the inside. I'll post more pics later to show what i did and also the dyno stuff plus sharing with your the current problems i have with this set up. BTW - the SPA dual gauges have 3 colors which can be set up anytime - green, amber and red. I am using the red since it blends well with all the other gauges |

Dyno:Remember this is a preliminary run and i was very careful with timing advance. 280bhp @ 6100rpm 9.5 psi of boost - I think Birk got it spot on. You can see that the torque and power curves are not stable - i guess its because of the mild ignition advance. I know that fuel mixture is ok - according to WDs. After the peak power - you can see torque fall - i am not sure why, maybe its because the catalytic converter is limiting the flow at this rpm, maybe fuel pump or injectors. If you have more insights, i would be happy to hear. Injectors are going to be replaced with RC 750cc, along with walbro 255 pump. Currently, the 5th gear was blown during cruise driving a week ago , so the car is not mobile until i sort out a good gearbox. |

What cams are in it? Wondering if that's your issue, or its the cat.Do remember that a rolling road is generally completely crap for cooling so could be high inlet temps making it pull timing in the middle of the curves. If it was a volvo on a Bosch me7 that would be the cause. Do you run water/meth injection? ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

The cams are GTI6.We ran the dyno on a cold night with ventilation. I dont recall seeing very high aftercooler inlet temps. My guess would be that the cat is blocking exhaust on high rpm. |

Nadium - The car is in a friend's garage waiting for a new gearbox (it couldnt hold the torque and the 5th gear broke). I'll try to pic the oil lines when i am there.Rallyeash - thanks. I got the TPMS from a site in the US. It is really good, German quality. When you activate it, it shows current temp and pressure and then goes blank until something happens or you press a button. This is really good, because it doesnt distract your attention on normal driving conditions. |

On a standard car the power generally tails off after 6200 rpm depending on the cam advance. They do tend to make more top end with a decat, but then you lose more midrange torque. Not an issue with a turbo of course! What cat does it currently have in there? 100 cell shouldn't restrict it much. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

The intercooler pipes are very short. They go in and out from the same direction, from the throttle body side. So i didnt need to think about the radiator clearing. I used the radiator space behind to fit SPAL fans.Adam, I have a Magnaflow metallic cat. |

Are you really worried about the power tailing off? I doubt the cat is the issue if its 3" diameter and 100 or 200 cell and the exhaust looks more than up to it. Obviously not the turbo running out of puff either. What does the throttle body go up to? Do the HB S/C guys still use the standard one? ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

The GTI6 throttle body is quite large - i think its 70-76mm. It seems, from the dyno, that something is happening after 6100rpm. I cant be sure its the cat, maybe not. I'll need more dyno tuning time. |

BTW, the gears are taken from mine (my final ratio drive), 1st, 2nd and reverse from a 205 GTI, 3rd, 4th and 5th from 405.Original ratios: 1st - 3.46 2nd - 1.85 3rd - 1.36 4th - 1.05 5th - 0.86 FD - 3.79 New ratios: 1st - 2.92 2nd - 1.85 3rd - 1.28 4th - 0.95 5th - 0.74 FD - 3.79 This will give 2533rpm at 100kph cruise, top speed of 276 kph at 7000 rpm. 5th will be just for cruising around. Once its done, we can get along with the rest of the project. |
