Anyone used these guys? https://www.performancetorsion.com

Just after a few reviews to see if they are ok before I buy.

It would seem they are the same as PUG1OFFs judging by the photo's ie they are the same but alot cheaper, LOL

Not sure if these are the same people that have been talked about on the 205 Forum,

But one of them that lists on Ebay won;t give any details of how the bars are made, treated etc which gives you no confidence in them at all,

It does make me laugh when people use the term 'Performance Garages' etc, if they where that good I'm sure they would list them

Thing is, it's not about how they look - the steel needs to be the correct type, as essentially they're springs. They'd look the same if they were made of cast iron, but they'd snap the first time you went round a corner.

Oh and Chris, might be doing Rockingham in March Thumbs up

As Miles says I wouldn't trust someone who won't say how they're made, if it's a real quality part companies are normally proud of the process as they know it's an expensive one.

Just because Pug1off use them means nothing in my book, I'd be looking at the Motorsport preparation companies (AB Motorsport for example) to see what they use as they like me have been around since the 205, 306 was in production

Mind I do have customer stock of old PTS bar's so I've never needed to buy any over the last 3 years but there is a batch being made up on 205 Drivers with a proven competition background

I think so, they were sourced through a guy on the 106 Rallye register, I believe they are the same source that Anthony uses and where 205parts used to get theirs.

Can't grumble at the price really, very nicely finished but that's about all I know, could measure the wheel rate I suppose and see if they measure up but I don't have any way to check the hardness or whether they were heat treated properly.

Either Chris Penrose is being fleeced by his supplier, or there's something quite different in the material or process spec, or that its a matter of scales where a large company uses more of this material and does more heat treating, I know Chris has supplied Special Tuning and Shenpar, possibly AB as well.

Quite a difference though, £220 to £350, though Chris does have his powdercoated and that is a delivered price unlike the others (the cheaper ones were £180 till recently)

has anyone got a straight answer from "performance Torsion" as to the material and processes?

this is what chris said when someone on thew 205 forum was having issues with "soft" torsion bars

quote:
One thing you can do is next time you have the bars out of the beam, take them to a company that is a heat treatment specialist and just ask them to measure the actual hardness on there Rockwell m/c you should have a reading of 40 'Rockwell C' any less then you might as well chuck them in the bin.

Something else you can also do but might be a little trickier is take them to a metalurgist company and ask them to identify what material your bars are made from, they should be made from EN47.

turned out the bars in question were only coming up to 30 on the rockwell rating Shock

The truth is you dont know what anyone is selling?

They tell you what you need to hear and thats about it..........

Its not to say the cheaper ones are any different, they could even be the same source for all we know?

As for the price difference whose to say the other companies are not just making massive profit and bending you over?

One thing I do know is performance torsion do supply pug1off as i emailed them, plus the latter cant price match..........

Over the many years of playing with cars I tend not to trust anyone, specialists included.

Remember its all about parting you from your cash. LOL.

That's interesting to know about the old 205 parts using these, One reason why I only bought 1 set as the quality if the splines where a joke and nothing was ever done about it.
It must have changed thou now by the sounds of it

The splines are still a bit iffy in my opinion.

They are cut on a kind of saw tooth shape rather than an even crest. I'm using a set on my 306( bought them about 6 months ago), and the splines seam to hold OK, but they don't gave a massive amount of confidence.
