We saw the Toyota version of this car, the GT86 at the Toyota dealer conference last Friday. Looks good in the flesh. The subaru gets the more powerful engine though... ________________________________________ 1999 Astor Grey GTi-6 OEM+ (now gone...)2004 Aegean Blue 206 GTi 180 (also gone...) 2006 Skoda Fabia vRS in Sprint Yellow honestly3k wrote: Do you wrestle for a living matt? The transmission is claimed to be a short-shift six-speed manual 'box and - unusually for a Subaru - only the rear axle is driven. Whilst co-development between manufacturers is nothing new and there are obvious advantages, style wise both the BRZ and GT86 are aweful! I really liked the FT-86 concept, but they've merged the current style philosophies of both companies into one for the finished product and it just doesn't work. Don't be fooled to think that it's just a non-turbo Impreza engine under there too. Yes it's a flat 4, but there's a lot of input from Toyota in the finer elements of the head and bottom end assembly. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

Reading the test drives of this car though it seems to handle like a dream. Don't be put off by the power figures - we don't drive 6s and Rallyes because they're rockets in a straight line do we?This is a lightweight, balanced RWD car which could be a lot of fun to drive. Certainly that's what the mags are saying. It won't be long before the likes of HKS start designing turbo kits for them too... ________________________________________ Light travels faster than sound. I thought the turbo version was the STi BRZ? but the standard BRZ will get the same engine as the 86?For a brand new 2012 era car, I think 1200kg is pretty light actually. Its the dimensions that get me Is roughly the same size as an mx5.. ________________________________________ Onward to the Edge! |

Weight and torque are similar, the extra 30hp is nice, and of course RWD, but compared to some other hot hatches nowadays its not hugely powerful. With last gen M3's going for around £6k this would have to be very special to tempt me.________________________________________ Spanner Monkeys Monkey SpannerForum Search Clicky |
