Hi,

The rear wiper doesnt work and according to the lad who I have just bought it off it hasnt worked for a few yearsNo

So though I would have a quick investigation!

Taking the panel of the first thoughts were no wonder it didnt work as the 2 plugs were not connected and in fact were taped up.

So took the tape off and then tried with a multimeter to see if power was getting to either plug - the yellow plug nothing but the red plug was getting 12v when i switched it on via the stalk. I then plugged both in and nothing happenedNo

So I am gussing fubared motor. Does it sound right on the 2 plugs ie yellow nothing, red 12v.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

DaveCool

I had a non-working motor but didn't have your expertise with a multimeter to diagnose it. If you are getting 12v it sounds to me like the motor is seized, but also check the blue relay by the wiper motor which FAQs on here will tell you is a frequent culprit. A faulty relay in the fuse box under the dash would mean you would not get 12v so it is not that. Other alternatives are the other wire that presumably switches the motor on and off - but that is less likely than the motor or blue relay.

I tried a second-hand motor and it fixed it. Electric motors don't like infrequent use, and the spindle on mine was corroded - they don't like water ingress either!

Well got my hands on a second motor and blue relay firstly tried the relay no motor working and blows a fuse! So ok thought take it completely out but now have a problem - the arm is rusted on to the shaft - any ideas. It is soaking in WD40 at the mo, I have tried 'tapping' it with a hammer but i am mindfull of the rear screen.

I have tried plugging the red / yellow connectors into the 'new' motor but nothing happened - as above im gettin 12v on the red one and nothing on the yellow is this right?

I might for a while if I do get it of and cant get either motor workin is just put a bung in the hole - any idea where I can get one from?

In my case the plastic arm had come away from the alloy bit it is moulded onto that actually fitted on the splined spindle. I cut the alloy bit off very carefully with hacksaw (corroded onto spindle splines through electrolytic alloy/steel corrosion) and then _unscrewed_ the serrated plastic ring, removed the washers etc before unbolting motor. Soaking in WD40 for some time will make it easier.

I had to renew the wiper arm and blade, as well as motor. Check out my project thread for details.

Right if it doesnt come of conventially tomorrow i will take a hacksaw to it!!

Then off to a local motor factor for a plug/ bung.

Then try and figure out what is going on with the electrics - and why it keeps blowing fuses? anyone any ideas?

Cheers Mik!

Well the good news is the motor is out - the BAD news is I smashed the rear screen doing it - FAIL! Fookin stuff went everywhere!

So now have the car under a cover and waiting for auto glass to come and put a new screen in and relieve me of £75 pounds(and they are coming at the same time as my works xmas p*ss up so even better!)

So when the new screen is fitted im going to put a bung in and leave it like that for a while!

Merry bloody xmasLOL

Easily done. But it is a good opportunity to check for corrosion under the glass!

I got a bung from a hardware store - around 19 - 20mm grommet IIRC (check on here - I used info from FAQ that gave me right size). Hardware store version worked OK but not perfect and could be removed easily (security?). On here somewhere is mentioned that Pug did one for base model 106 which might fit better - ask Pug parts department.

Hammer was trying to free the wiper arm of the shaft - must have 'tapped' a bit hardLOL

Seats folded down so I could get all the glass out - the fookin stuff went everywhere - ill be finding it for weeks to come!

All fixed now - nice new shiny screen fitted.

So that was £75 for the screen including fitting? Is that geniune Pug screen and is 'auto glass' the name of the company?

£75 was the insurance excess - auto glass was the company who fitted the screen and ill have a look at the screen tomorrow to see if it is a genuine pug one.
