Timing belt just been done by experienced car mechanic as i write this, got a phone call asking if it tapped when i started it from cold before belt was done, it didnt. Mechanic says the oil pressure light wont go out after he starts it, so hes not going to run it just incase oil pumps f*cked etc. why would there be a problem with oil pressure after the belt has been done? The car was fine before belt was done, new oil and oil level is fine. Help!? Cheers |

Not 100% on this but if he has left it for a little while then it could just be a tapping noise from the tappits where they have drained whilst its not been running. The only other thing I can think of is that one of the pulleys isn't timed when he put a new belt on but that would make a major tap. Not sure about the oil light either, never had that when I've changed the cambelt________________________________________ Onward to the Edge! |

Not sure about the oil light either, never had that when I've changed the cambelt Hes done loads of belts on them before, so i think he should have the timing spot on. I just cant understand why the oil pressure light would come on after a belt change? The car had only been sitting for a few hours. It was fine when it went into the garage, engine was running great. No noisey tappets or anything. |

i'm not sure if the oil pump works the same as 8v xu, but if the bottom pulley hasn't been tightened correctly and woodruff key missing then the pump won't rotate as it should for anyone who has better knowledge, feel free to correct me ________________________________________ FRESHLY RE-FURBISHED GTI BEAMSFITTING AND LOWERING AVAILABLE. Jord is correct, the oil pump is driven by the crank and the sprocket on the earlier engines is held in place by friction of the crank bolt.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

What would you need to do to sort this then, if it hasnt been tightened correctly? When you meen it hasnt been tightened correctly, do you meen tightened tight enough or has not been lined up correctly? |

I doubt you will really be able to tell unless you strip it down and have a look.Might be worth getting a length of hose and using it as a low tech stethoscope and try to find where the tapping noise is loudest? ________________________________________ Onward to the Edge! |

If the oil light is on it will be what jord says, the earlier oil pump drive just have a small o ring and it's the friction when the crank bolt is tight to hold it all in place.Carl ________________________________________ C.G.Cars of Leicester, Peugeot/Citroen/Renault specialist Tel: 01162 624498/07799 405184 WWW.CGCARSLEICESTER.CO.UK36 narborough road south, Leicester LE3 2fn MOT station now open, tests £35 with a free retest. no, should be the latter assembly, whip the crank pulley off and look at the bottom sprocket, later ones are a hollow machined affair.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Right, valves are all fine as it has been timed up spot on. Still no oil pressure though. Oil pump is getting looked at this weekend, hopfully it'll be an easy fix! Oil pumps, what do they cost new? Worth getting a 2nd hand one? |

DO NOT buy a motorfactor pump, always use o.e or second hand. However its highly unlikely that the pump has failed. I would get a proper oil pressure test done as you can't always trust the senders. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
