Whats the deal with rear discs. I know they basically dont get used but can you get bigger brakes on the back?
A few current hatches have quite large ones at the rear ive noticed. Clio cup for example.
I dunno im just thinking in terms of balance is it not better to upgrade front and back. Or am i missing something and everyone with renault sport brakes has bigger calipers at the back too?

no need Thumbs up

most cars that you see with larger calipers will also be heavier and much more powerful.

with the standard calipers and a bias valve in the full open position pugs will just lock the rears up very easily.

ah ok.. fair enough. I thought it might be the case but then I saw the clios and some other new hatches and got wondering. My only concern now is that they might look odd next to the bigger brakes. Anyone got an image from side on with bigger discs and calipers on the front

I have upgraded the rear discs to 280mm with AP calipers. Total overkill really and lost the mechanical handbrake. Rear brake control is much nicer now though.

Looks wise they fill up the space under my 16 pro race wheels nicely as well.

Can you post up some pics please Velar? I'm hacked off with the discs glazing up and shite sliders and have been considering an upgrade for some time.

Pictures of the brakes setup on my old track car

16s

17s

some build pictures of a similar setup I put on a 406 coupe, (306 mounting brackets are very similar, and the 25mm wheel spacer shown was only needed as I ran et37 wheels on the 406))

It is actually Steve Sopers 2000 car,

Tim Harveys' car is the one I fitted the brakes to ( running with standard 406 suspension arms and hubs)

Very nice, obviously hydraulic handbrake is'nt up to passing an MOT, does anyone make a more reliable rear caliper with a decent mechanical handbrake mechanisim too that fits a 306 without too much fuss?

Think of this scenario though.
Park on a hill
Hydraulic handbrake fails
Writes off a car at the bottom.
You Are f*ckED.

Whats the difficulty on getting rear calipers to work witha handbrake then. Excuse my ignorance

Calipers have hydraulic pistons. So you need a lever or screw to force the pads against the discs.
