Hey guys, recently well i say recently about 4 months ago i bought a T reg 1.4 meridian great condition inside and out. 67k miles on the clock for £750. I came here by complete mistake but have been looking around these forums since about 1pm having breaks everynow and then lol.

I'll upload pictures of the car tomorrowwhen it's light (It's dirty so needs a clean) i just wanted to get a few tips on how to clean the engine abit since the rocker cover has a layer of rust etc.

I love the gti-6 since I'v seen people's projects on how they've come along and upgraded them etc. Edit: Wish i'd have bought a 6 but the insurance is insane, my 1.4 is 125/month alone Sad

Great site you've got here although unsure on the payments for access to everything Sad
Edit: You should get a 'New Posts' section or button so we can see what's been posted today.

Hi Dan Wave be warned, you are going to get some stick for having a 1.4 (and a 5 door at that Doh) but dont worry...... I started off with a phase 1 1.4 XL nearly 7 years ago..... 6 306's inc. 2 GTI-6's later I'm now driving an HDi and I'm still here...

Grow a thick skin Yes pay your fiver Yes and save for some insurance Yes 6 months on here and you will be owning a quick one Yes

Engine cleaning...... Gunk (the product) and elbow grease FTW

Might sound stupid but p*ss!! the ph levels are great at removing ingrained stains from oils and general dirt, works better on a warm engine. works best with an early morning bright yellow p*ss

1. get your engine nice and warm
2. open the bonnet
3. get a step ladder or a large box
4. trousers round your ankles
5. p*ss on your engine!

wait till the p*ss evaporates taking the stains with it! a second go and some elbow grease might be required on those stubborn areas

Dude its not ordenary p*ss its horse p*ss Yes

Plenty of members on here will back me up as I suplied them with horse p*ss. Its also great to add a little to a bucket of water when cleaning your car.

I will genuinely sell you some horse p*ss. You will get result like this. This is not a polished or sprayed manifold either. Obviously the only annoying thing is going to the stables with a bucket and waiting around till a horse does a p*ss then quickly nipping in with the bucket. But as you can see the end results are worth it.

This works. I found though on the second wash I required the use of my mothers stockings as the finer mesh really penetrated tough stainage.

Also a good soaking of the engine bay using the garden hose. It's a myth about leaving the engine running, just stuff some tissue into the inlet manifold which will stop water entering the engine. Leave it to soak for a good 4 - 6 hours as this will loosen grime. Best do this on a Sunday whilst you can chill out inside. Polish off with rag and grease for a crisp finish.

That's the way Iv always done it.

Gunk brush on, or Auto Glym / Meguires engine cleaner
http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-accessories/car-cleaning-accessories/exterior-cleaning/car-detailer/?549775701&0&cc5_810
Dont use a pressure washer to clean the engine bay as water will get into bad places, eg electrics

Nice first post for a newbie by the way. Decent spelling and grammer will keep the forum police at bay.

Don't worry about not having a 6. Most people spout shit about everything on here, so you'll be fine. I personally wouldn't waste money on insuring a 6 if you're paying over a grand a month on a 1.4! They're good cars, but certainly not good enough to get into debt over.

Do I sound really old, as I feel it after writing the above!

Thanks for the replys guys, i'm definatly looking at getting a 6 when i'm older. Doubt i'll get insured under 3k/year. For a 1st car i did really well in my opinion, i just have a passion for 306's Razz

Thanks for the tips on cleaning the engine up, not quite sure on the horse p*ss but i'll definatly take a look at getting some 'gunk' whoever linked to some the link doesn't work Razz

Just started a job at M&S for 6.40/hr ALL of it exept petrol is going towards saving some money up for some insurance on a 6. I'v just been looking through people's projects and really want to do something like this but living at home without a garage or tools it's going to be hard Razz After a few months i might look into renting a garage somewhere and getting some tools Big grin

Again, thanks for the positive replys etc.

I tried the p*ss method yesterday and although my neighbours gave me funny looks while i was stood on the small stepladders with the lad out the I carried on and left it to soak, I've spent all day scrubbing with a pair of stockings and to be honest with you it looks no getter.
Is there Somthing wrong with me and do I need to go to the docs to check my wee out?

You need to take the stockings off and scrub with them. And put some more clothes on as well, you'll catch your death standing on a ladder nearly naked p*ssing onto your engine.

What do you mean Take the stockings off, I didn't wear them just used them to scrub, are you saying I need to wear the stockings on the ladder while p*ssing on my engine, and that's why it hasn't worked?
I'll have to do that when no neighbours are around, it's not really convenient, can't I just wear them Pisa in bucket and pour Pisa on engine, atleast it saves the strange looks?
Thanks

Try p*ssing into the intake, it cleans the engine from the inside out.
