Whats the best way to store hydraulic tappets / lifters to make sure they don't rattle when engine is

reassembled?

Also, whats the best thing to do if they do rattle?

i just kept mine in seperate bags soaked in oil

yeah, i was thinking along those lines, that or 16 seperate containers filled with oil.

But what if they rattle on start up, my engine been sat for nearly a year with no oil in it...

give it some revs, not too much though, may well need a drive to build the oil pressure up.
