Check the top engine mount fixing in the cup on the chassis as its very prone to cracking, it's a much easier fix if the engine is out of the way.

what i did when i took my engine out, was:

completely strip bay down and bare shell clean/tidy/respray it
rebuild suspension
get solid engine mounts fabricated
weld top engine cradle to cope with added solid mounts
relocate all unnecessary pipework, abs, pas etc to the bin
install full stainless brake pipework
rewire full engine loom and move fuseboxes inside cabin
ditch oil/water heat exchanger and run proper mocal 16 row setup
ditch all breathing accessories and install a mocal system
change the full radiator system for a non-heat-exchanging xsi 16v system
repaint all things unimportant like slam panel and bare chassis under panels
do the clutch, cambelt, crank seals, lower pulley and waterpump
f*ck the foglights off and install some brake ducts

then leave the car sat for another year whilst i f*cked around in a new M3

always worth doing IMO

WOAH. I think Ill swerve the relooming and mocal but the rest of it sounds like good advice. Where can I get a solid pulley from then? Dunno

Finally ..........!

Got the car back last week - I made the classic mistake of telling my mate I didnt need it in a hurry - he has a scaffold firm and was letting one his mechanics do it when he had time, unfortunately ever vehicle they own seems to have broken over the past few months Big grin

He had problems getting the engine out (reckoned it had to come out of the bottom but didnt have a big enough gap between his ramps), then had to destroy the alternator to get it off, also found the subframe mounts were knackered but other than that it wasnt too bad - he said he had a lot of trouble getting the clutch release fork back on but did it eventually - he also managed to keep the cam timing pretty much intact, which Im chuffed about Big grin

Got it back and the engine mounts have made a lot of difference, the front of the car feels like one solid piece and the grip is astonishing, it really is pick a speed and go for it now. Clutch needed replacing after all which is disappointed only 18 months after it last got done, did cambelt as well (more $$$) but Im very pleased to get it back (just before the tax runs out)

Also found a man who makes compliant uprated engine mounts and got some fitted to my 350Z - they are excellent so we are going to be talking about doing some for the 6 soon as well, its worth doing Smile
