yes granted that thing is a tiny tesla turbine with a cheap dynamo on it however that dynao is far to small for what the unit can actually output. the turbine design is more efficient than older steam engines. and my boiler isnt quite like a conventional boiler.

its going to be a coil of 1/4" copper wrapped around and braised to the exhaust then heat taped for max heat absorbtion. this should be far more efficient than old style boilers

as for my cat...........well i would tell you but i dont know where its gone Razz

bmw are going down the peltier seenbeck route, which as ive said is slightly different and you get electrical power not mechanical. they seem to of overcomplicated the matter with water cooling one side of the plate and made it rather expesive.

Really? You think the surface area and thermal conductance of a thin, tubular, mild steel exhaust, which has a smooth inner bore and minimal contact with the exhaust plume, is going to be better than those conventional boilers with miles of thin-wall, small bore copper tube right in the heat path?

OK then. Have fun.

It might work better with a copper exhaust pipe with the coil soldered directly to it, that would get you some better heat transfer at any rate, I think it's going to be a srtuggle to get the kind of heat required for steam of sufficient pressure/volume to run a turbine though. That and the fact that on a short journey from cold or long periods sat at ldle you effectively won't have a charger at all, as you will have to thrash it to build up a head of steam powerful enough to turn the compressor, f*ck that for a laugh.

i was going to braise the coil to the exhaust with silver solder to aid heat transfer aswell as wrap the exhaust and the coil so more heat is trapped inside. im not doubting a boiler may be more refined, but id argue there heat source isnt as intense as that from exhaust gases.

yes putting the copper pipe inside the pipe and directly in the flow of the gases would be more efficient but means a lot more fabrication. :S

im experimenting at the moment as i said on my 1.4 im not expecting this to turn my car into a beast. its a proof of concept. the next step after getting it to run the tiny telsa would be stepping up the dynamo on the turbine to see what kind of of kw it can generate from that i can deduce a rough bhp figure.

and see wether its worth investing in a larger turbine or making the exhaust more efficient or to call it a day on bhp gains and convert it to make tea

He's probably changed his mind and moved onto another revolutionary idea lke using the power of his own farts to raise manifold pressure and enable a faster burn on the combustion cycle...

no offence intended but why is he allowed to use the technical forums? is it for the comedy factor? because it definitely isnt for technical knowledge Dunno

ive even seen advice on brakes along the lines of "to measure for disk warping put on a flat surface"???? wtf happened to using a dial gauge like everyone else?

sorry ive gone off topic but i just cant understand this guy.

would love to see if the steam charger works though Thumbs up

It's a newfangled Derren Brown subconscious method of making people hate me, first demonstrated in this thread.

Only on this forum could people post up in General, get shot down and told to pay so they can post in Technical, only to be abused for posting in Technical having paid.

Anyway who cares, where's my f*cking group buy on steam superchargers?

yeah but i thought common sense says you don't answer technical questions and give advice if you don't know what you're talking about?? i don't have the greatest mechanical knowledge therefor i wouldn't tell someone how to do an engine swap (for example). so he shouldn't give incorrect advice on brakes.

but please do continue with the steam charger quest Thumbs up
