Here is something Id like everyone to get there teeth into, the 207 gti.
Ive not seen many about but they seem hansome from some angles (not sure about the front end mind),
and they seem to have an air of Pug tradition inside the cab which is appealing.
Ive done the norm and read reviews which comes accross a mixed bunch of good and bad but I cant help
feeling everyone compares it to the 205 gti which I think most modern cars would find hard to live up to, you cant compete with the raw elememt of the older generation 205's with modern day more heavy safety/economy minded
built machines.
I guess the big question is would the 207 gti be a viable investment now that any decent Pug hot hatches are 100,000 mile + or has Mr floppy come to town once again for Pug ? ? ?

No Peugeot GTI is an investment unless its a 205GTi. But I must admit, I think they are a great looking car and if I was in the market for something like that then I would certainly have a look around one! Never driven one, but like you say - anything that is produced is always compared to the 205GTi, and they can't compete. But somehow, renault manage to keep churning out cars that the motoring press seem to love. But do they just love it because it's the "in thing" to love?

had a 206 180 and there is a lot of similarities between the 2 cars the main one being the interior and trim which ican confirm is shit, it literally fell to bits, stitching came undone and it rattled something all the time. mechanics wise it is fairly gutless and from a 2litre to the thp would be a big come down. you will probably ened up straining everthing as you try and drive it like the stronger 2 litre. i did look hard at these cars but changed my mind completely once i had driven the mini, better built by far

that view of the 180 engine is a classic one that mirrors the old mi16, theyre actually pretty strong mid range, significantly so over the xu engines.

there was an ecu update for them btw, there was running issues that many have not been done

206 interior is nothing like 207 interior. I have had both cars and can safely say build quality and dash plastics are much better on the 207 FACT. Also the driving position in the 207 is miles better than a 206. All round a 207 is a far better car. Handling is great too.

Very rarely will you get a definitive group opinion on cars from forums, the two completely opposing interior opinions for example so your best bet is to drive one personally and make your own mind up unless you're being subtle and really mean; "will everybody slate me if I get this?" question Whistle

After sitting in one and driving it for 30 mins I do not think the 207 is a good car hence why you do not see many. The 206 180 has virtually the same seats maybe a different layout but is nearly the same maybe the gti is different but the 180 is more or less.anyway regardless of that I don't think it is upuxh when there is better cars out there for less money and better performance and build quality

The thp 175 model would certainly not be a come down from a 180! 5bhp less and 400cc but produces a f*ck load more torque from low down and carries it all through the range.

Pug should have given the 207 gti the 200hp lump from day 1 and maybe peoples opinions would have been different, that said though it's a very tunable engine.

Keep a look out for the 208 gti next year 1.6 thp 200bhp!!! Looks angry like a gti should.

While there night be something in that, I do think Renault has got something currently that Peugeot seems to have lost - I had a new Clio 1.2 as a rental in France in 2009 and it drove brilliantly - fantastic handling and a lot more power than expected . My comment at the time was, if the poverty spec is this good, how fantastically brilliant would be a sporty version with 200 bhp? Contrast that with a 307 rental not long after which was nowhere near as good to drive. Felt flimsy and didn't sparkle at all.

I think the big problem is I have such a soft spot for the GTI6, I had one when I was 22 (now 30) and it was by far the daddy on the road over all my mates cars Id spend more time in it than in my own house !
I would love to have another but it would have to be a minter with realy low low miles (dreamer) so failing that im always looking at other options ie 207 gti.
Anyone would think im trying to re live my early 20's and having some kind of early mid life crisis !
Is this what having kids does to you ? ? ?

They're still making cars to the same basic recipe as the 205 GTi was made. Small hatchback, light weight, well set up suspension and a big powerful N/A engine, just as they did with the Williams which was always considered as close as you'll get to a factory built 205 Mi16.

I test drove the 207 GT 150 petrol and thought it was very under powered (not driven the GTI) i then drove a 110 HDI and felt the mid range torque to be a lot better, then the fact the HDI gives back 60+ mpg and only £90 a year to tax (half of what the petrol 1 was to cost) i ended up buying a 207 GT HDI 110 18 months ago and i love it, its a great cheap car

Im not that fused about the 207 GTi' its the front end its too 'Marmite'(in this case I don't like itLOL) for me to be perfectly honest. However the 200THP model does seem like a worthy car to be given the 'GTi' status but not really in the same league as the 205 GTi which is already a legendary hatch.
Whilst on the subject did they celibrate the 205 GTi's 25th at Pugfest whichever year it was 09/10? Dunno If so I wish I had been there.
