Brian that 309 is cracking the Miami one!!! My 306 isint a 1.4 it's the old 1.3 that you get in the 309s haha love 309s was my first car!!

Thanks Chris! I very much like it too. It's badly needing a re-spray though believe it or not! There are many many dings and scratches all over it and the Bonnet and a wing have had a bad re-spray in the past. There used to be a wind deflector on the sunroof and has broken a line of paint along it, meaning it's exposed to the elements! Shock There's a bit of a ding on the o/s rear quarter too right in the corner. But mechanically, it's fantastic, has had the rear beam re-built too and had the underside all painted/rust proofed, Andy put a new cambelt etc on it too. There's a few cigarette burns in the car bit i've tracked down a guy who can sort them for £30/£40 each..he's mobile & local!

No! You're not tracking the Miami Blue 309 as there's only about 5 in the UK! Just check in on 309oc. It's pretty deed though as they've changed the site and loads of folk didn't come back to the new one for what ever reason. I know a guy down south that might have a phase 1 shell eventually but no idea when and i dunno how solid it is??

So i finally managed to get round to some thorough cleaning...

How the car looked to start with:

After a wash although doesn't look much different!

There was no need for boot lid shuts to be this dirty!

After:

Whipped roof trims off as well and cleaned out some of the gunk

I also did the door shuts and the sills/around the doors etc but didn't take any pics. I then started the claying process just using an autoglym clay bar. It's not as good as the Bilt Hamber stuff but still did the trick. I used it along-side Iron-X, which draws out dirt from the paintwork instead of what's just sitting on top of it.

This was the bonnet:

Doing this first I found made claying easier and quicker because Iron-X breaks down the dirt sitting on the paint, so the clay bar slid over the paintwork smoothly.

Already starting to achieve a bit of depth and sparkle!

And how the day ended:

I think the wheels might have been refurbed in the past but not very well done or something?? The finish on them's a bit lack lustre!

Still to do:

Below the doors from the black trim down with the clay bar, side skirts & the front bumper. I've not started on the interior yet, but it's really not too bad, just needs a good hoover and a wipe over with a cloth and the glass cleaned as there's a few sticky marks on the windscreen.

I'll eventually tackle this and see how it comes out. I'll of course need to tackle that surface rust before it gets worse although I think this is common?! Sad

Still lots to do!

Mine had a couple of small patches under the C-pillar above the arches. I've seen some much rustier than others. I'm about 1/4 of the way through my car.

Well cleaning that out just means less gunk depositing>keeping moisture in>damaging paint>causing rust.

As in the C-pillar internal plastics Mei?

I'd advise searching through Detailing World. It's advisable as you don't want to get me started on cleaning cars...i've got a problem...

I got a set of winter tyres on some steel wheels, however the steelies themselves were a bit rusty, so, since I had some Bilt Hamber etch primer, Ford Graphite gray paint and lacquer lying around I decided to use some of this to freshen the wheels up a bit! I know the last ones are pretty dark, but never mind. I'll get pics of them on the car in day-light at some point.

I was not going for any awards with these wheels, but here it goes! This is how they started out and as you can tell I already faffed around with a tin of primer before these pics were taken!

Rubbed down, washed, dried then taped them up. I find tape's a bit time consuming but zero paint gets onto the tyres and it's so easy to peel off and it's really cheap as a masking material. Proper masking tape doesn't stick to tyres very well at all!

Thoroughly covered in etch primer

Then graphite gray paint and lacquer. Far from mint but better than the orange and black and not bad for using what I had lying around! Big grin I couldn't use a flash on this photo because it just hit against all of the paint in the air and was really hazy and unclear!

Not a total numpty..just hadn't paid to use the rest of the forum when i originally posted this you big gaytard.

Not checked the cross member. Chances are it is terrible because there seems to be rust in all the common spots really anyway. Even in the corner by the brake servo is rusty so I am sure whatever lies below there is horrendous. Is that an engine out job to sort it?! I feel that it might be necessary to do the job properly but 1. I have never taken an engine out in my life 2. I don't have the time 3. My mum would shout at me then probably make me do my OWN IRONING!

Yeah the guy that owned it was from around there and moved up to Aberdeen with his wife about 8 years ago. He is a specialist doctor for brain cancers...a very intelligent and lovely man actually. His M3 was awesome! I paid £1900 for it. He had it advertised for £2495, so thought I did alright there, car prices in general in Aberdeen attract the highest prices in the UK...for what reason, i've no idea? He gave me the steelies with winter tyres on it too. Plus I don't mind paying that few hundred quid extra for an example with piles of paperwork.
