im aware of a few of the differences between the two. mainly the rallye is stripped out

and 16kg lighter?

are there any beefier parts or is the differnce only the weight?

16kg seems a bit pointless seeing as ive managed to shed over 40kg from mine so far without compramising any functionality?

just wondering

thanks for your replies in advance

If you have a phase 1 six iirc it will be lighter than a rallye anyway.

phase 1's tended to have sunroofs or aircon so wont be lighter than a rallye, s16 is lighter as the box brakes and no aircon on most

Max power is delivered around 6000 rpm so there's no point revving higher as the engine quickly loses power after that.

Is the 52kg vs 16kg weight loss thing due to comparing weights of differently-specced cars - e.g. a Rallye probably is 50-odd kg lighter than a GTI-6 with aircon, sunroof and other optional bits, but prob only 16kg lighter than a 6 without the air-con and optional bits.

i agree. the front grill with extra slats looks better, and the fog light aragement looks..........more fitting. phase 2 and 3s are going the way of all other cars (i blame women). nice n boring rounded gayness. although ive remooved mine anwyas to make room for my induction kit.

mines a phase one with no air con or sunroof Smile looks like mines probly as light as a rallye if not lighter after my tinkerings.

thanks for the info guys.

doesnt that all depend on application. maybe in a drag race etc. but for real racing the extra rpm could come in handy. especially with engine breaking.
