Nah not til next year Adam, decided to give it chance by wrapping the bonnet and roof. Need to debadge the bonnet and primer it though before I get the vinyl.

I won't be able to get the bonnet perfect so what would give better visual masking, matt or gloss black?

Started on the grille today, fibreglass down and setting nicely. Little trick I learned, chop out the section to be smoothed and lay masking tape down on the outside. Fibreglass underneath, body filler on top. Less filer = less cracking, result.

Need to look at getting a plate on the bonnet recess but will just chop chop with mr grinder for now

Matt should be better as gloss black shows up everything.

Had some time over the weekend to batter on with the grille, almost finished the whole front end now. Proud of myself for doing it all for £20, result. Finish isn't QUITE perfect but what do you expect with no experience of moulding fibreglass and body filler?

Anyway, here's the grille having had the tape removed once the fibreglass had dried, as you can see it's already a pretty decent shape so not much work or filler needed

And after adding some filler, some sanding and some primer you're left with this

Give it a quick paint and job done, fit it to the car and get to work on the bonnet!

No pics of behind the badge but I opted for the fibreglass route same as the grille, then a light skim of filler. It's come up pretty decent, the matt area on the bonnet is where i've flattened it back, going to smooth out all the sanding marks and then cover in gloss black vinyl I think until I get a proper wage and I can paint it properly with a nice healthy clear coat.

Pics

Did a bit of tarty work on the spoiler too, not to everyone's taste but followed the roof line and painted the edges of the spoiler yellow

I know a lot of people don't like smoothed front ends but i think it simplifies it nicely with the vent being present. If the vent wasn't there i'd keep the badge, think it works like this

Was thinking about that Simon but don't have the money needed to repaint the front bumper, was thinking of getting a square plate like your Rallye but it's all money, and by the time i've started work and got a wage i'll strip it and do it properly

I dont like smoothed bumpers, looks like someone didnt think about the number plates and just slapped them on randomly.

Not my cup of tea, but certainly a tidy job.

Never done that much with fibreglass anywhere it matters or shows, how is it to sand down? Presumably some of the fibre and resin would've ended up proud and needed sanding, does it end up as smooth as the filler?

Oh, and you're aware your droplinks have fallen off in that last picture, right?
