Hi,
I'm rebuilding and upgrading my rear beam. I managed to get a brand new torsion bar from a dealer for £10 off Ebay but obviously still need another one. Will pairing it with a second hand one impair the handling? Do torsion bars lose their springyness with mileage like front springs do?

Thanks for your help!

Personally I would replace new with new.

Second hand should be fine mate.

Just watch they aren't the dodgy ones that aren't hardened properly. They just twist, no torsion effect

mattgti6phase2 - They only had one otherwise I'd definately have bought both. A new one from Peugeot is £100+ :-(

paul_13 - Thanks, I didn't know about dodgy ones! How do I watch out for them?

It was a specific seller, I'll try and find the name.
PhillipM might know as he offered alot of advice on it.

Ideally you should buy another new one...... But if you have to fit a used one, make sure you fit it on the same side as it was previously fitted. Although they shouldn't,torsion bars do get a bit of a 'memory' from being used so if you fit them the wrong way round they can work a bit differently. I've also seen cars lower themselves after bars have been fitted the opposite way around.
Your original bars should have marks on to identify which side they go on.

If it were me I'd fit the original bars or buy another new one.
