Hi All,

Thinking about doing this, anyone had any experience in this? Big job?

I am looking at kits on eBay which always scares me a bit lol

Thoughts?

Not a hard exercise on an S1 at least.
Quality? None to speak of.
Since there is _no_ brand behind these "conversion" sets the eBay ones aren't worse than any other - all are made in the PRC anyway.
I use Osram Rally 65W bulbs instead.

5500 35w hids for reflector headlights is what I had! Very good and a nice White light! Just got to drill a hole in the headlight cover bit! Easiest lights I have installed!

I wouldn't worry about the MOT they take the best part of 5 minutes to unplug and change for your standard lights.

Bear in mind from next year aftermarket HIDs will be illegal, so even if you swap them out you can be stopped and fined for having them on the road.

In Hungary for example it can be legal _if_ you have a headlight washer _and_ automatic height adjustment.

they've been ilegal since 06 there only legal if you throw away you're normal headlamp unit for a new HID headlamp which i belive you can buy off ebay for 150-300 quid depending on what type. its ilegal to convert normal halogen headlamp e.g gti 6 headlamp to hid because it doesnt focus light correctly its brighter in some areas not brighter in others they say heres the link.

That's true in that it's basically illegal to dick about with your lights if it means the beam is incorrectly aligned.

They're simplifying it by saying you simply can't change them at all for risk of getting it wrong.

not seen any direct fit HID headlamp units for a 306 Unsure

I think there are some HID units you could fit into a Morette style thing though, a few of their own kits are HID already too.

(looks like the xsara units are HID, but can;t find the full details)

A mate of mine bought a HID conversion kit from ebay a couple months back for a Combo van £90. Passed MOT fine.
