Basically my 6 used to shake realllly bad,
after a lower engine mount, wheel balancing and a new dash mounting peice it seemed to be much much better.

So im driving last night and all of a sudden it comes back for avengance,
At speeds from about 30-50 its there quite bad and ive noticed the wheel that it feels like it comes from is missing its wheel weights. (Front passenger side)

So it should be a simple problem right?
Common sense says its just.
Welll its SO SO violent im certain it surely cant be down purely to the balancing. i'd be very surprised.
ive checked the tightness of both my wishbones and wheel nuts, one bolt (which i think is the one i put back on three days ago to replace a locking bolt) , would get quite tight then stay the same tightness no matter how much i turned it. i took it out and it was thinner in the middle than at both ends :S so i put the locking one back on (which tightened up properly) but the issue is still the same :S
i think the disc is VERY VERY slightly warped also but its always been that way i think and i cant see how it would make a difference when not braking :S
Ive had the car up and tried to move the wheel about left and right up and down etc and all seem fine.

Also i have attempted to fit a lower brace recently but the wishbone bolt is foooking tight.

Am i being stupid and worring too much (its just balancing) or is there a more sinister cause?
To be honest the gearbox looked a bit mucky under neath but ive heard that thats pretty much normal ? but again it seemed like there was no excessive movement or anything.

Get the wheel re-balanced and go from there. It's pointless looking at other things until that's done.

(And yes, unbalanced wheels can cause violent vibrations)

If you can see a wheel weight has dropped off. As a temporary measure I would remove the remaining weights. I did this last week after loosing 1 weight - removed the other 8 weights and the wheel runs balanced. This might just be lucky but a few people I know have experienced similar results. Makes me wonder if weights are needed after a NEW tyre has bedded in.

Possibly a driveshaft to. CV joints could be knackered which can cause the above symptoms.

If you do get the wheels rebalanced, find a very good tyre place as many of them just slap the weights on without a care in the world.

As said could be the driveshaft. When you dip the clutch your unloading everything. Check for side to side movement and up and down.

Ffs, just went out, when the judder is at its worst you can hear a ting ting noise, and I think I heard some clicks on full lock. Could it be from after the mount was change and the boots were disturbed?

Hmm

I had my michelin PE2's fitted at the 3rd garage I went to, no one would fit customers own tyres.

Tyres got fitted - not balanced as he didn't have an adaptor. I don't know if I was lucky but they are good to ***mph.

I still think it's a shaft. I got a good second hand driver side one for mine and it cost £30 still ok now.

My old one fell to pieces when I took it out but it shook the car to f*ck!

Was that in the twisties? I've heard good things up to this speed. Minimal wall flex.

looks very leaky under the passenger side shaft Sad
just crawled it home, cant accelerate past 45 mph, and reaching 40 taking about 20 seconds if you dont want the car to vibrate like a bucking bronco.
Dont have time to even consider it myslef so the car is just going to get bunged in a garage in the morning and im going to come home with a sore arse.

Hey rich I'm yeah I did have you in mind earlier but I really needed it done today and wasn't sure if the car would make the (still sort ) journey, literally I was crawling through the town center Sad so I've chucked it in the garage.
Defiantly want the arb fitted and probably a strut brace as well Smile
