You'll fail an MOT and lose torque. How does that sound?

Yup, you lose a sack of midrange torque but get a nice noise*. Depends which you'd rather have.

*you also get the contents of your silencers emptied out of the road as you drive.

I wouldnt worry too much about fitting oone, it probably wouldnt be one of the worlds most common car mods if your car was going to breakdown within 10 minutes of fiting one, just swap the cat back on for mr mot man.

If you happen to google backpresure one f the quick links that comes uo, funnily enough is 'backpresure myth'. And this might go someway to answering a bit about it raher than the same people jumping in with the same answers all the while! lol!!

And if you Google "Elvis" you'll find links about how he's alive and well, doesn't make it fact because it's on the internet.

People fit them and feel a noticeable difference. That is a fact.

Just fit a sports cat. You stay road legal and get 99% of decat 'advantages'

Although if you plan on doing that, it's still worth being careful. A mate of mine bought a £1200 sports cat for an M3, and it still failed its MOT.

That one got returned.

its not lower back pressure that a larger pipe causes, but higher due to the gas speeds dropping too fast

TBH i have a full GRP N pugsport system on mine and it changed the characteristics of the car, bit slower pulling away but a tiny bit quicker up top, the main benifit is weight saving and nice noise at 7k rpm LOL

My decat made a lovely noise when pushing hard but Mr VOSA didn't like it too much unfortunately. The car felt instantly quicker with it removed though.

Nice noise vs mid range torque. Your call.

And sorry, but that article's terrible, it's like a half-article. It bangs on about carbs and not much else! If backpressure wasn't important, why do manufacturers design exhausts with expansion chambers to manipulate the airflow when they could just have no exhaust altogether? And why does the GTI6 manifold, for instance, look like a work of art when they could just have one big box covering all four ports?

I think I need to redesign my airbox as well then, going by what they're saying I'd be better with a cardboard bonnet scoop leading to drainpipe plenums

ITB's very much FTL
