For anyone interested, I have done a few of these now and for those who are running harnesses but haven't taken the plunge and gone for a cage with harness bars a rear mounted one welded to the tops of the arches provides the ideal location for fixing the shoulder straps to.

Here are a few pics:

To fix the eylets for the lap strap you can utilse a threaded hole in the sill towards the B-pillar. For the inner ones these mountings were welded to the tunnel:

Prices start from £140, depending on how much prep you have done, ie removing trim, carpets, rear arch liners etc. and level of spec (for instance threaded eylets for the bar like the ones pictured add £30 and if you need front welded points on the tunnel add £20.)

This takes a little while to do so allow half a day. Especially if you have fully trimmed rear end, painting is not usually part of the service (I just happened to have some white paint kicking around) but I will put on some etch primer to stop it rusting while client organises matching up something suitable.

Cheers for looking.

Hmm Interesting...

Mine are currently attached to the old seatbelt mounts which means they're at far too steep an angle.

I assume you could do a "while you wait" type thing? Albeit for half a day? Would be quite a drive y'see, but nothing impossible.

I believe 20 degrees from horizontal is FIA approved, I think if they go any higher you lose strength in the mounts.

I think.

But I could be lying.

In an ideal world yes, a location that puts the belts at 90 degrees to the holes in the seat would be perfect. However the location pictured is about as high up as you can get a bar mounted on the arches, the material on the insides of the B-pillars is just too thin and therefore weak to weld a bar to. Obviously a cage is the best thing to mount harnesses on, but this is a much better compromise than the floor mounted affair most people have to make do with. Smile

Holy thread reserection

I've only just noticed this, how very dare you post up pics of my inner sanctum without my say so LOL

That said, I might just squeeze a little link to this in my project thread for those with an unhealthy welding obsession.

Read the thread Tom, this is covered.

Mabz, what would you need? Eyelets in the bar, front seat belt anchor points etc?

Harness bar with anchor points and eyelets plus the chassis repair will set you back £270, thats £30 off for having both done at the same time. I'll have to clear it with the boss as to what day I can do it as he's keeping me pretty busy at weekends for the moment but should be able to fit it in soon.

If you are still doing these can I have a price for a harness bar with the threads, and front welds on the tunnel for lap straps

Also would you weld in two rails either side to mount my bucket seats on? And another threaded plate in the front for a 5/6 point harness?

Cheers, Jake
