i have an irritating clunk / bang from the front passenger wheel whenever i turn right. Everytime i start my journey it clunks on the first right hand turn like something moves then settles mostly when the car is pointing downhill although it also seems to do it when i reverse out of the driveway and drop off the curb, so both times at slow speed. I understand this could be anything, I recently had the wishbones and balljoints and bushes changed because of this but its still there.

I don't know if its related but i tried to rotate the wheels (as they would if they were steering) and there's movement. Should that happen? Rack issue?

ARB bushes maybe, or if there is play in the wheel then maybe a track rod end.

Have the droplinks been changed? Can't imagine it making that noise but worth checking.

Also do 6's have top mount bearings like a 205?
My mate had a dturbo and the top mount was f*cked making loads of noise.

It's hard to tell what/where the noise is without hearing it yourself

Edit: Just had a look at the FAQ and they do have the same style bearings by the looks of things, could be the bearings dead/dying

whats the easiest way to diagnose or is it a case of replacing everything to cover all possibilities?

Replace them mate, will lighten your steering up a bit.

2 new bearings off ebay, got a set myself and they're good quality. 10er each.

My golf did this, turned out to be a broken spring....

It was more of a twang than a bang mind.... but made the sound every so often turning one direction.

This is a definite between bang and clunk, will sort it when I've got the time and energy, doesn't seem to be affecting handling massively at the moment

Have you jacked up the 6, then got someone to move/wiggle the wheel to see if there is play in the ball-joint ?
