Is it just the ECU that decides the horsepower? It's the same engine code according to Wikipedia, so once I bolt on any differences to it I should be laughing with all 167 raging French stallions under my bonnet?
Thanks, Matty.

I've just bought an XSi engine off eBay to replace my current wrecked one, it's the 16v version: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320721079328Is it just the ECU that decides the horsepower? It's the same engine code according to Wikipedia, so once I bolt on any differences to it I should be laughing with all 167 raging French stallions under my bonnet? Thanks, Matty. |

Unfortunately not, the xsi lump is the same block but different head, management and pistons afaik. With 135bhp as standard and with a diferent ECU. What is salvageable from your GTi lump? May be able to make a decent enough hyrbid, but I'd probably sell that engine on and get a GTi lump from on the forum.________________________________________ There are only 10 kinds of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't... |

that wiki link does not say its the same code its the cams and manifolds that make the major differences, the management to suit of course, the head is said to flow as well as the older MI16's which are pretty good for over 200 as they are. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

After rebuilding the engine, I used the manifold from the original engine which dropped a valve, because it had a Peugeot logo on it. Stupidly, I didnt look inside, which has been destroyed by stray metal or whatever. It sucked in some of these metal bits and dented the pistons and valve seats, leading to a lack of compression. I don't want to rebuild it again, so for £100 I bought that engine. I can put the cams into it, that's not a problem. If that just leaves the pistons different, then I can accept a 5 or 10 bhp drop - when do I use full throttle anyway? I hope I havent just wasted £170 on an engine that's no good to me! Matty. |

one thing I'm unsure of is whether the J4R valve springs and buckets are ok with the RS cams, the RS has double valve springs.________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

if by RS you're referring to the GTi, then my GTi head has single valve springs.i had a bit of a google around and people do seem to use GTi cams in their XSi's to up the power, they need a remap but obv i dont because ive got a GTi ecu. Matty. |
