Hi There.
Im currently doing the heater matrix and ive followed the guides on here and im completely stuck when it comes removing the actual matrix from the bulk head through the rubber gromit! is it better to pull the pipes through the gromit or remove the hole gromit? i have tried both methods using silcone spray and lots of blood, sweat and tears but with no success!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

I couldn't get mine through, so just undid the two screws that hold the pipes through the grommet to the matrix unit, about three inches into the car.

Far easier Yes

    as above!

have you removed the screws that secure the heater box to the bulkhead too?

I cut up my old pipes getting it out. When putting the new one in I put a small slit in the grommit between the 2 holes then adjusted the rubber once the new pipes were in place.

I would also advise removing the whole grommet with the pipes. I've recently done my matrix 3 times, the first 2 times I did it the way owain says however afterwards I was getting heavy leaking from where the matrix joins those pipes, which I later found out is quite common if you do it that way.

On the third and final time I decided to get the grommet out and seal it all up properly off the car, luckily that did the job.

As I was not re-using the pipes I got them out by pushing them through with the end of a bar that was lying around the garage, I pushed it into one of the pipes until it would go no further, and then forced it through. It took a lot of force mind! The rubber grommet and pipes then came out as one piece.
