With gearbox oil I'd go with standard pug.Engine oil - I've had a good experience with Mobil 10w40 semi-synthetic oil. engine ran smoother after that.. ________________________________________ Ling-ling is no pet! +1 for pug box oil. Engine oil I would use the recommended total stuff. I use 5w40 much better much more durable. ________________________________________ Team Nile 6Team: 40.2 MPG 5 x a 306 owner! currently abusing type r's in a town near you ™ I truely live for the 306 ® Build date: 29th October 1997 Wednesday's car midweek madness |

I don't see a point using racing oil on a standard car and even on a slightly modified one..The price difference means you can get a new engine with the money spent on ~10 racing oil replacements! ________________________________________ Ling-ling is no pet! yeah, but if you live 200km away from the closest racing track (like me) and if the engine dies on the track you wish you've spent a bit more on oil ________________________________________ VTSbest 60' : 2.272 best 1/8 ET : 9.375 @ 74.42mph best 1/4 ET: 14.603 @ 97.047mph Team Trackday™ |

Get a half-decent fully synth, about £25 per 5l from Opie. That'll be fine. Looking forward to saying the same again in another month on another new thread. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I say next person to ask about oil should be told oil in an engine is completely unnecessary, it should be the new milk float gag.________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

owain wrote: +1 for using search This. Oil has been covered hundreds of times. Does anybody actually bother using the search function anymore? It's very frustrating logging on to see threads like "what oil?" and "where can I buy disc brakes from?", etc. Forget all the fancy racing oil, unless of course you are out on track every other day and have some serious mods. Any semi-synth 5w40 or 10w40 will be fine. These are not super complex racing engines, they use bloody standard oil like every other car out there!!! ________________________________________ Racing driver, fighter pilot, astronaut, compulsive liar. |

Especially when the question is "Hi. I have a completely standard car with a million miles on it. It doesn't go on track and it's never even gotten warm. Quite frankly my engine would barely notice if I filled it with old soup instead of oil. What specific manufacturer and grade do the experts recommend I use to get the most out of my smokey old block which never gets above 3k rpm?"Faaaaaaarrrrrk ooooooorrrrrrrfff ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

jimmy it depends what your after, if you want something cheap and effective, Sunflower (Sainsburys brand) usually does the job i find but for performance, quality and flavour, the majority of drivers tend to favour Olive (semi-organic 5w40). just dont mix the oils when on track or when having a fry up |

I now steer clear of 'own brand' washing up liquids though, they tend to be thinner, almost as if they are watered down and I'm sure they don't protect as well, this happened to me after I bought a cheap alternative to Fairy... ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies.
