Does anyone know how far these are supposed to be put in? Flush with the face of the block, then about 1-2mm more, there is a chamfer on the end of the crank and the lip on the seal ends up pretty close to that. Don't be tempted to put it in any further as it will certainly leak.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. I sell new and used welding equipment in the Hampshire area. 0127 28 is the gearbox end crank end seal.That part on eBay is the seals for the crankshaft end cap on that side. ________________________________________ Rich |

Worth putting a crank seal in while its in bits Pretty sure thats a pattern part seal fitt ATM too  But does not need new 'hockey stick'(No1 main cap seals)  Dry as a board where they leak You can see the damp areas mine had before I replaced seals below:  ________________________________________ Red GTB1756 powered Fabia VRS daily driver,LBSC Gti6 eater........Mac1 ZR R1 kit car build in progress. |

I dont understand why people go to car spares/dealers for seals like these. You can get them for a fraction of the price from bearing/seals dealers. I use a place local called city seals and bearings. If you just read the size off the old seal they will find one to match. I recently bought cam seals and both front and rear crank seals for less than a cranck seal would cost from the dealers. The only one they didnt have what was exactly the same size was the large crank seal but they had one what was 1mm wider which actually worked better. |

with the likes of this seal i think some people wouldnt want to risk getting the wrong size, i wouldnt have a clue where to look up hereits a bit of a job replacing it once the engine is in the car with gearbox etc back on if you get it wrong will i have to drain the engine oil out before taking this seal out the engine has been sitting for a while, surely the oil will all be in the sump although i did clean the seal up a week ago and looked at it today and its slowly seeping out ________________________________________ TEAM HIGH BOOST SUPERCHARGED RALLYEMy Rallye project thread |

No, you don't need to drain the oil to change the seal mate. Have you got any mates who work in garages, particularly Pug related? If so, ask to borrow their seal fitting tool for a day. I used the old seal as a drift, i could not find anything the same size. Im going to start the engine without gearbox oil in to test its fitted correctly with no leaks coming out the gearbox.________________________________________ Pug fee`ver,Pick a Bogey, buy a Pug.
