I fitted a carbon fibre bonnet on thursday and it weighed 6.7 kg compared to 12.4kg for my old metal bonnet with sound deadening. Not sure about windows as my car is a road car!

I'd estimate maybe 15kgs saved max, really not as much as you're thinking.

finally!!! thank you, someone with figures and the will to share them Razz

so ill save about 6kg with a carbon fiber bonnet. i would of expected more Sad oh well. least it will look the dogs danglies Smile

im prsuming the weight saved with this mod will have less of a positibve effect on handling (reducing roll) than relocating my battery, madness :s

It's only a guess mind Wink

But seeing as the standard windows could all be carried comfortably by one person, they can't be more than, say, 20kgs. Lexan is light but still has weight, so I'd say it's a decent estimate Yes

If you're worried about how it looks go for the bonnet and just forget about the windows, they'll scratch and will look horrible Yes

after ive forked out for a refurbed torsion beam setup next payday Razz ill look into carbon fiber.

and just have to make do with the more cost effective repositioning my battery to the boot (as i already own the cable its free)

the more i think about scratched windows the more i rethink. the set works out at around 600 quid with hardcoating thermored sides etc. and its a lot for about 10kgs if that

besides saving up 8grand for a supercharger. i dunno what else to do Sad

Refurbed beam, new bushes all round and some decent dampers will make a different factors bigger, and will come in less than just doing the windows Yes

i understand the concept of basics first Smile hence why im refurbing the essentials and starting with a clean slate. i might find after the rears done im happy with it and give up on plastic windows.

my modifying tastes are weird. i like the unconventional tuning wise i.e. economy and performance. i also like the street sleeper/ratrod mentality of keeping it looking standard. (apart from my chromed 205 1.9 gti wheels and a little bit of debadging and smoothing

so things like lexus lights and max power body kits are a no no.
