Just had my car back off a mate he did the headgasket! I drove it for about a day and now the car has overheated and spat out the water again! Have the gasket gone again? Or has something caused the engine to overheat which is why the gasket went the first time! I.e radiator or waterpump or something? So annoyed! The head was crack tested and skimmed so the job was done properly! Bit worried about driving it at the moment as I don't wanna do any damage so the 'mate' is coming to pick her up asap!

its probably airlocked, did he bleed the coolant system properly and use the pop bottle method to raise the height of the fill up point higher than the matrix?

Hey, yes thermostat was replaced! The water is coming from
The overflow pipe! Usually when Iv turned the engine off! The fans do work but I'm not sure if there doing the job it's meant to! I'm not mechanically minded as a friend did the job! Yesterday he told me to take the valve off rad and fill to brim of water then when water comes out lock it back on! Does that mean it's been bled or no? Thanks

Ok guys! What would have caused my head gasket to have blew in the first place?? Which bleeding points need to be opened as I have problems finding them! It's an odd ball engine apparently, it's a 1.8 auto but the only gasket that would fit was a 2.0l 8 valve! I'm so shit with cars guys so sorry in advance

errr, that doesn't make sense, the 2.0 is 86mm bore, the 1.8 83mm...

so the fire rings will not be sat on the top of the liners properly...

I'm not sure mate but all I know is that both the 1.8 gaskets that peugeout supplied wouldn't fit! The engine is an odd ball with no engine number either, maybe imported or something?

So do we think the gaskets wrong guys? By the way the guy who did my car has had a garage for 12 years so surely he wouldn't make that mistake? Or would he lol

I don't understand why you had trouble getting the right gasket from Peugeot, you just go into Peugeot, give in your registration number and they "should" hand over the correct gasket, as a back-up I would have taken the old gasket with me to compare, if you have used the wrong gasket, as said the fire rings might not seal correctly or a vital hole might be missing and a water or oil supply blocked,

unless the engine has been changed to one out of a Cinquecento or summit (common mod I here) Whistle

Haha! I didn't go to peugeout directly! Went to welsh auto parts they supplied me with 2 gaskets for a 1.8! neither fitted so we took the old gasket and they matched it up with a gasket, I'm pretty sure from a 2litre pug

Has the car had an engine swap or bottom end change then to a 2 litre model?, If you could post up a pic on here of the old gasket and measure the bore size of the piston aperture then there will be some perv off here that will be able to tell you what engine the gasket is off,

Also was the new gasket a MLS one (Multi layered steel) as Peugeot supply or a fibre one?

Sounds like it could be the wrong gasket fitted then Sad , or if this engine has wet cylinder liners fitted was the cylinder liner protrusion checked? , if not and the protrusion was not correct (too low) then no gasket will seal correctly,

Ahh so it does have liners then,

Edit ;- is this the case for all the alloy blocks?, as pug supplied a mls one for my 106 1.4D when I did that headgasket

I no the car does have wet liners as he mentioned it before hand! If it means the liners were too low then where do I go from here? Is the head f*cked again? Do I need to do everything again? New head gasket skimmed etc?

When I had one done the liners had somehow gone lower into the block, I took it to an engine builder who decked the block (reduced its height) and then matched up the liners to the correct protrusion specs with new O rings,

Yours sounds like it could be wrong gasket
