Get a sniff test/and or compression test done on it to confirm head gasket is leaking again, if so you will have to take it apart again and determine why it is not sealing, only way I'm afraid ________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6™![]() |

Sounds unlikely but we all make mistakes, I have put brake pads in wrong way around (metal to metal) and also put a thermostat in back to front on a ford engine heated up fast though________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6™![]() |

Should've gone for a drive, the cool air going through the rad would have been more beneficial than switching off and letting all that heatsoak from the exhaust cook itself to death. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. When driving the car never reaches red! It stays at about 102ish n stays there! But if I pull up n leave it then it pushes towards red and then engine off and water spills out of the overflow pipe ________________________________________ bloooobirds |

l8un08 wrote: What would any of you do? First confirm that's its gone again -sniff or compression test, find out why it overheats when its ticking over, are the fans operating correctly?, if its deffo gone find out why, head should be ok as you had it skimmed and pressure tested, next whip the head off, examine gasket, confirm its the correct one, next examine gasket again to see if its clear where the breach between the water jacket and combustion chamber is, next check cylinder liner protrusion and liner levels are within tolerances, if they are check there are no cracks in the liners themselves (had this once in a 309), do you have water in the oil? if so maybe change liner seals, do use a good/genuine headgasket and new headbolts greased and torqued up correctly, I am sure your mechanic will at least test to confirm the headgasket has gone again, and strip the head off to see why, this will not take him a lot of time, Then once you know what the problem is you will have to judge whether its economical to fix or source another engine, you wont get much for scrapping her, You might be lucky it might be an airlock with a combination of an overheating issue and/or a faulty radiator cap, ________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6™![]() |

So I have a good chance that the head hasn't gone again as I had it skimmed and crack tested about 2 days ago Ye! In answer to your comments on what to do, thanks il make sure he's checked everything before I make any silly decisions as it's such a smooth drive and has so many miles left in her! Passed MOT 2 weeks ago failed on 1 tyre! I know he had to get new bolts as he didn't wanna snap the old ones as they were badly corroded! Just wanna thank you for all the help! This site is easily the best on net! ________________________________________ bloooobirds |

Doubt it's the headgasket again but your so called experienced mate doesn't sound too clued up on how to bleed the coolant never mind a headgasket change! Personally i'd check the thermostat if the normal operating temp is so high. That or an airlock ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

Hey guys! The car had a brand new thermostat on when head was done! My mate said something about the thermostat looking weird and having no lil hole in it! So we took it out, I've been driving round all day without it on and car hasn't reached 90! And also no water is being lost!Should I go to main dealers for a thermostat? ________________________________________ bloooobirds |

Could be, I've had a brand new stat that did'nt work before. Get a genuine part and try again, I would'nt be tempted to leave the stat out, as it will take ages for your engine to reach the correct running temperature and will wear out faster.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies.
