I have recently had my head gasket changed and also replaced the head due to my last one being cracked and eroded badly. the head was skimmed before fitting and its had new head bolts.

since it has been done i have got a few problems

1. slight knocking noise from head (gets worse when warm)
2. when warm car will not idle when slightly revved
3. when warm it struggles to start. first sound like no compression then after a few seconds it judders and catches but struggles to idle (99% of time just cuts out)

any help would be great as to why i have these problems

cheers

Maybe he's timed it up wrong as I hear they're not the easiest car or maybe too much was skimmed off. I'm no expert but hopefully someone more qualified will be along shortly....

You could try sending a PM to mechanical_repairs.

funny enough we were talking about timing aswell. another symptom aswell is when driving, there is lack of power when throttle is pressed its fine for normal driving but when pulling off it lacks the normal response.

that sounds quite possible which could explain the no compression sort of sound on starting

it wasnt done in a garage. it was done on my mates driveway. his dad is a mechanic and he does it as a hobby. he completly rebuilt his c2 vts engine from the ground up and fitted throttle bodies. and its rapid. he also done a few engine transplants so i do trust him. i think it must be the timing out because all of the symptoms seem to lead that way. cheers guys will keep posted
