As the title said, it looks like it's bye bye gti, I was on my way to the garage today to drop of the car to get it checked over and I think the cambelt has snapped, I was only doing about 30 when this happened bnd stopped instantly but I'm guessing the damage to be massive for what I've read about this. Anyway my mechanic has trailered it back to his place and is going to check it tomorrow to see what has happened and what the damage is but I guess I'll be in the market for a new car I think. Only problem is I'm mega skintSad

Thats probably what I'm going to do as the rest of the car is in great condition for its age, any one got a supercharged one for sale? How easy does a v6 go in? Would my mechanic charge me much for a swap? Hope notSad

How many miles did it do on the current belt before snapping? Did you leave it well overdue?

Car has done 86k and was told the belt was changed at 60k so should not have needed changed till 100k really? Should have guessed it would be too good to be true

Was there any proof of the change at the stated mileage? Mine is on 28k since the last belt change so Gettin it done before 30k. Yours seems to have snapped premiturely!

But like I said it was on the way to the garage to get a proper going over, would they have been able to tell if it had been done recently or not?

The first thing I checked before buying mine was the cambelt!

I would be so p*ssed off to! But as said above you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a healthy 2nd hand engine.

Good luck.
