had 6 bent valves and replaced 8 had the head fitted properly by the same guy that fiited my last 6 head but this time its still bloody tapping,and he thinks it can only be the lifters (tappets) it is a little smokey when you give it a blip on tne throttle....any suggestions as i am loosing faith nowAngry

Damaged valve guide or there's still a bent valve in there.Wink

Should check the guides as a matter of course,mine needed all exhaust valve guides replacing due to age/wearWink

Almost deffo the head, Everything should of been checked but I know from the Guy I use even heads that have been done are found to have issues, One reason why I would only trust 2 companies in the UK for this job

cheers for all the help guys,just found out that the bent valves were replaced..but the machine shop did not replace the guides....aarrrrggghhh

The guides rarely need replacing, They can be checked thou which is all or should be part of the course

is there a good mechanic in my area that could do the head on my rallye as i am getting fed up of the answers,saying it wont run on bent valves or its the tappets,as i want to get it sorted once and for all nowSad and cant keep spending moSad ney all the timeAngry just want someone who knows what there doing...cheers

Car - Mechanical repairs can sort you out with a tap free head or try rich w or I'm still in contact with an ex longmans employee Smile
