Hi,

The 6 has been feeling pretty damn unstable recently, when driving at anything over 70ish on b roads it's become a real effort to keep the thing on the tarmac. It seems like i'm fighting against every undulation. Even something like crossing the cats eyes is enough to make it change direction quite dramatically (more than expected anyway).

I'm inclined to think it could be rear beam mounts because:

1.

Rear toe is a bit out.

2. It does feel like the rear is a bit disconnected to the front

3. Sometimes I get a slight knock from the rear at slow speed, normally it only does it a few times at the start of a journey.

I've recently had new tyres on the rear which hasn't seemed to make any difference, if anything it's worse. Also recently had new complete wishbones and droplinks.

Is there anything else worth investigating before shelling out for new mounts? (would love to get gen Peugeot but they're a bit too dear so it may be solids instead).

Thanks in advance

Jack up the rear and see if there is any play in the bearings. Could well be the mounts though.

I've had it up and tested both wheels, no movement if your hands are at 12 and 6 or 3 and 9.

Check your front suspension again, had similar faults due to worn hubs and ball joints. even hubs cracking after a new arm is fitted.

knock from the rear could be the forwards beam mounts, which would allow the whole beam to move about quite easily.

Hmm yes, on closer listening i really can't tell if it's from the front or rear, sometimes it's a knock, sometimes more of a squeak from top strut mount area. Argg.

Hmm, wouldn't there be movement in the front wheel if hub/balljoint was at fault though?

rears are new hankook ventus v12 at 34psi. fronts are two odd conti something or others with 5mm of tread, 35psi. Front tyres probably aren't helping matters tbh.

no not yet. I think i have three seperate noises, one is rear beam mounts, the other is a creak from top mounts when turning at slow speed, the other sounds more like a crack from the top engine mount. (i've tried to rock the engine by hand but the mount seems good).

Rear beam mounts are on the way, will report back when they are fitted.

Will do chap, want to take the top mount apart first to check the condition of the cup bit as I may be completely wrong.
