To be fair to the guy:

"[Transport Secretary Philip Hammond] is concerned that anti-car campaigners have for too long used 'road safety' as a convenient excuse to both stymie raising speed the limit on motorways from the current 70mph, and to push for more 20mph zones in urban areas - even when they are inappropriate."

Also they did admit recently this whole "hit me at 30/hit me at 40" thing isn't accurate any more, and due to the better way in which cars are designed that isn't necessarily true.

However the Daily Mail then went onto say "Britain has some of the safest roads in Europe". Do you think they knew that was a Partridge quote or not?

Could have been worse - I was completely flat out in the Rallye with the speedo on the needle and I got flashed out of the way by a Touareg diesel. Left me for dead - I mean really, really left me for dead. Laugh my ass off

Everyone drives at 80 on the M1 for sure anyway.........the only thing i don't like is the people for example learners that come on the motorway thinking they can go upto 80mph but without fully knowing how to drive like that.

My massive pet hate is it's 8.30 and everyone's trying to get to work, and there's a car/van doing 50 if he's lucky - with 9 cars behind and no-one willing to overtake..........puffs!

Boils my p*ss

Mmotorway rules IMO.. 17-21 year olds slow lane and middle lane. 21-60 year olds any lane. 60 plus slow lane unless overtaking. 65 year olds retake there test because 99.9% havnt got a clue how to drive now days.

I hear you, its massively annoying, but I don't hate the van driver, I hate the driver of the car behind that's effectively making the van twice the length and harder to get past. Still they are not as annoying as the guys who think its ok to do 45 mph down the 60 limit narrow b roads and then think its fine to just carry on at that speed when they reach a 30mph village. I hate them so much!!! Angry

Well I don't really see that working, and I think that's a bit harsh. You can't always stereotype based on peoples age, I for instance am 21. I have been driving since I was 17 and driving has been my profession since that time. If I was to be denied access to the overtaking lane I wouldn't be especially happy, and a lot of older drivers are very experienced and likely have more road awareness than the younger generation.

What this would inevitably cause is slow moving traffic in both the left and middle lane which would lead to massive congestion in the right hand lane, everyone would be a loser.

The M1 has been widened to 4 lanes in most places now, no one uses the inside lane as they assume that its a secondary hard shoulder, the left hand middle lane is the slow lane, the right hand middle lane is for the hoggers and the 4th fast lane is for overtaking the rest of the twats I have just mentioned. It beggars belief. Why the f*ck people cant just drive properly is beyond me.

The Friday night sheffield to Loughborough dash is made so much more stressful by these dicks. Cant see how raising the limit to 80 is going to eradicate these imbeciles though Erm?
