I am trying to remove the long shaft.

I have stupidly completely loosened the nuts off the retaining bush thing, and have no idea where 180 degrees is from where it was, so will be there all day hitting it at different angles hoping its the right one.

Can I remove the whole engine mount and take the shaft out that way?

Grab the studs one by one and pull to the passenger side whilst rotating. They'll fall back into position at the correct point. Push back out, and count a turn of 3 flats on each nut, simples.

Removing the engine mount casing is not advisable, it's dowelled onto the block.

If your not sure on the studs undo the nuts completely, you may need some heat on the housing as not many are greased up and steel+alloy = Corrosion

I undid the nuts completely and could see one hockey moving around so tried to mimic that on the other side. I gave it a beating and it didn't budge. Not being 100% sure I was beating it when it was lined up, I just pulled the shaft out the end and left the middle shaft joined to the engine and pulled the lot out like that.

Now the engine is out I will have a fiddle.

A ball joint splitter is handy here as it knocks both sides of the metal ring, hit it on one side and it rarely moves

If you have it off the car lace it all with penetrating fluid and it will ease the corrosion bond.

The ball joint splitter is a good tip. When doing my brothers HDi driveshaft I struggled getting that shaft out (on the car), and rigged up a series of extensions to take it out the arch with an allen key socket on the end and beat it out quite successfully with two or three large strikes of a 4lb hammer.

Funnily enough I did use a ball joing splitter as a chisel to try and make it budge.

Will soak it in WD40 and have another bash, cheers

you need a proper penetrating fluid if it is seized, but not failed with a cold chisel Smile
