Evening folks, I wonder if you can help me....

Yesterday I was going about changing the cigarette lighter bulb. Just when I thought I was winning, I managed to drop the bugger. The harder I tried to retrieve it, the further I pushed it down into the depths behind then lower dash.

20 minutes later I'd taken up the centre console and I finally found it. It's not all I found though!
Lurking down there was also the sum of 74 english pence, a clipper lighter, a receipt from Pets at Home for a hamster (£6.95), part of a condom wrapper (presumably from the previous owner - female) and a couple of slightly worse-for-wear compacts discs.

Anyway, back to the point...

While I was putting it all back together, having found the tiny little piece of plastic I'd worked so hard for, I must have dislodged something. Now I have what can only be described as a 'foreign object' (probably French Wink) hanging in my driver's footwell.

Could someone please shed some light on what the deuce this thing is?

Where should it be?
My aircon doesn't work (shocker!) so it's not important but does it does poke into the airflow tunnel?

I think it pushes into the heater matrix box, you may be able to see it if you put your head in the drivers footwell and look kind of up a bit, towards the centre, theres a small hole near the bottom of the heater box that it pushes into.
If you have a feel round i think it goes through a rubber grommet into the heater box, the box containing the matrix.

Hope the above makes sense Laugh

If it was just dangling about, would that affect the temperature of the air coming out the blowers in the lack of working aircon?

Or have i buggered something so much that I only get hot air now?

AFAIK its a temperature probe for the heater matrix, so i would assume that if its left out it will constantly be telling the heating control thing that its much colder than it should be so i would guess that it will be trying to heat the car all the time. Thats just my guess work though so don't take it as a fact LOL
