Anyone ever had any problem like this with there exhaust? Would it just be a case of loosening, moving and rejoining the decat joint mabey?

well lads, i fitted a decat to the car a few months back, and it was perfect for a while, sounded great and you wouldnt even notice any sound difference while the car was idleing, but lately the exhaust has developed a kind of metalic vabrating noise at roughly 3,000rpm, and also at idle it makes a vibrating noise that almost sounds as if the exhaust is blowing slightly. Ive located the sound and its coming from the section of the exhaust behind the decat, not the baffler but the pipe around where the center mount is. Now the exhaust is nowhere near any part of the body and all joints are sealed perfectly with no blow and solid thight. All the rubber mounts are perfect also and if i shake the exhause or hit it by hand theres no noise so theres nothing inside thats doing it but if i just press on the exhaust right where the rubber mount is with the car running the noise stops straight away, so i bought a powerflex mount for the center thinking it might solve it but no difference atall. I know its just a stupid little thing but its really annoying, especially when driving around town as it can be heard fairly loud outside Anyone ever had any problem like this with there exhaust? Would it just be a case of loosening, moving and rejoining the decat joint mabey? ________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

its a bit strange this, i know that when i put a devil decat on mine, i was advised before from some members that they get a rather annoying resonating sound from around 3k rpm and above, especially on motorways, so i wrapped mine in high temp heat wrap and its a lot quiter than others ive heard. If all the seal are fine, and the mounts made no difference then im at a loss im afraid. but "metalic vibrating noise" does sound similar to the ones ive heard resonating ________________________________________ Ex-Black 6 - Speed has never killed anyone, suddenly becoming stationary... Magnex by any chance? If it is try tapping your center box, if it sounds hollow then all the wadding will have burnt out / been blown out, needs either opening up and rewadding or a new centre section putting in. I had this on my magnex and it sounded terible so i had a new powerflow centre section welded in. Job done. ________________________________________ Cherry Red 306 HDIChampionship White Integra DC5 Type R |

oecken, yes its the same on mine, it comes into it at about 3,000 rpm just at a certain point and then when the revs go past that the noise goes again or if im stopped and hold the throttle at the certain point in neutral the the noise will stay there until i drop the revs or raise them...bennn,its a standard exhaust just with a decat bolted in, and ive hit and shook the exhaust to check as you suggested but there is not one sound from it at all, but the noise seems to be coming from just behind the centre box, you know where the rubber mount is just around the bend? ________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

I have exactly the same thing on mine! So changed to a second hand powerflow system, cured it a bit but can still hear it sometimes! I think it may be something to do with cat not being oem an raising and touching the heatshield! Could your decat be doing the same? |

no man it doesnt touch anywhere at all... i checked everywhere and its well away from the heat shield all around and even if i gave it a good shake it still doesnt touch!! Whats weird is that as soon as i push on the exhaust where the noise seems to be coming from it stops ________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

yeah thats it alright, a resonating noise, it asa if the pipe is vibrating making the noise by itself, not actually touching off anything... yeah exactly what i dislike most about it, gives people another excuse to slag the french car!! ________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

My Scorpion system used to resonate horribly at 3,000 RPM too, it always did it and I just got used to driving around it if you know what I mean. I did cut open the resonator box and re-pack it with stainess wool and E-Glass. But that was just before I sold it so I never heard it after. I suspect that your perforated tube in the expansion box is cracked, also check the welds in and out of the resonator very carefully as exhaust systems are heavy and unless the tube inlet and outlets are supported with well designed gussets you can get fatigue cracks in a relatively short space of time. Add to that expansion and contraction from exhaust gases and splashes from puddles and cracks can grow very quickly.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. Hi can anyone recommend someone near stoke on trent who might help with mine. It sounds rough as f'k. I had a new cat last year, 'kwik fit' emergency and its never sounded right since. last month one of the spring loaded bolts was found to be loose (which seemed to fix it) but now the noise is back and the bolts aint loose. It sounds like its blowing but no holes can be found! |

All of you with vibrating sounds , check your heat shield that bolts DIRECTLY to the exhaust cam cover, mine created a noise and no one could locate it for ages________________________________________ Ex- Phase 3 China GTi-6 T-Reg |

Anyone get a vibrating noise at medium to high revs after you have let off the accelerator? I'm hoping to god that its my exhaust and not my gearbox ________________________________________ 2005 Peugeot 206 GTI 1802008 BMW K1200R |

Chaps, had this on both of mine, I bet you that its 99% going to be a cheap centre section, these cars don't like them. Had a few Timex mid sections and they all got swapped under warranty because they resonated horribly at 3000 rpm after only a few thousand miles..... sounded like an unwanted Nasal Uncle. The Bosal was better for a while but for complete piece of mind get an OE one (about £120 new) and get it fitted properly, problem solved ________________________________________ Almost standard 1999 Bianca RallyeHilux InvincibleX daily 306 No.13 Carp and specialist Anglers Click here |
