Hey, i'm pretty new to the site but joined becasuse i bought a GTI-6 to make into a track toy. I've had 306's for years but due to the milage i do back and for to work they've all been D*esel (I know thats a swear word on here.lol.) I still have a D-turbo for work so this is just puerly my toy. This is how i found her;

The car had been parked up for 2 years with a cracked block and an owner who had lost interest in it. Then to add insult the wheels got pinched. I gave £175 for it like this. it still had the leather interior, fancy door builds and a few other extras.

The plans;
1.Loose everything that wont be needed on the track
2.Phase 2 rear lamps
3.Fit the new engine (which i have bought £375!)
4.Remove a/c and abs
5.Some better suspension and new discs and pads
6.Drivers bucket seat,(passengers weigh to much)
7.Go racing!

The gliter bonnet is on the list of things to be replced too but at the moment the wallet says it's gotta stay.lol. i aint heard the exhaust yet, might keep it depending on the noise and i'm undecided on the spoiler too.

How do u know about my engine?lol, At least I know where to come if it doesnt work.

cheers for the advice boys, i've got so many plans for this car. I'd never thought of painting the bonnet but thats now on the to-do list. it'll be fine painted til i can afford a fiberglass one. i'm not sure what i wanna do with the boot yet, i like the smooth boot but the tint has to come off the window so still playing with ideas. the car will look 100% better when the lexarse lights come off tho.

More up dates, they'll be coming quick as hopefully i'll be taking it upto Llandow track on april 2nd so i have a month to get it running.

Stripped interior,

Old engine, A/C and ABS removed,

Dusty cars always come in handy for drawing wiring diagrams on the windows.

The first mod i've made, e-bay special steering wheel.

I will be setting the suspension up the same as my D-turbo for the moment cos that is pretty good and handles awesome. New Kyb shocks all round, roc -30mm front springs, standard hight rear beam, OE wishboes and steel ARB links. Also ferodo pads and brembo discs all round. I can get all this through work and pay when i can afford to, so keeping it pretty standard until funds improve.

I was looking at them, will add one to my shopping list, it'll be cheaper than an engine rebuild. Any other mods that might come in handy, it'll be my first track day, gonna use it for testing on the car and see how she goes.

Some decent tyres i had 4 odd cheapos on and was unpredictable ended up off the track in the feild at 1 stage, other than that soft shocks and the car being standard (too slow) it was ok on the novice section in the morning but in the afternoon open pit i was just getting in everyones way LOL

Update. first i wanna start by saying this is no longer a 'budget' track car, i never thought i'd spend the money i have done and i still have loads to buy. It'll be worth it when its finished tho.

Some new goodies i have so far, full set of swampeys brake hoses and bias valve these look sweet.

I also made up new front pipes from copper. i didnt take any before fitting the engine but i was really pleased with them.

Then, in went the engine, with a new rad, rallye aux belt set up (which i must say was a bas**rd of a job!, the bolt holes that the rallye set up uses rusted up and i snapped off a bolt. so had to tak it of and replace it with a spare i had. 10min job ended up being about 3-4 hours!
