well folks, has anyone experienced any noise or rattleing from their front brake calipers? i have this noise a good while now when driving on rough ground, at first i thought it was drop links or drop links so ive changed all them and wishbone bushes and tie rods but its still the exact same, and ive just noticed the other day that if i lightly press the brake pedal when on the rough road the noise seems to stop! Ive checked everything on the calipers and its all thight and theres only new discs and pads gone on few months back. Its not a really loud noise but it is definitly noticible and one or 2 passengers have asked what it was aswell as they heard it too..
Is this just a case of the slides wore on the calipers or is it a common thing with these? ive done a search but found nothing... Sad

If you are sure its the callipers, can't you just take the pads out and put it all back together just to make sure it hasnt been done wrong?

i had this on the rear calipers on an s16 i had.
the noise went when i pressed the brakes i belive it was a split pin fault(pads ratterling in the calipers as the shim that sits under them was not tight) i know it went when i took out the pads and copper slippes the back of them and put new pins in anyway.
hope this helps

well its been in the car since i got it but got slightly worse, but since ive got the car i changed the pads and evereything was put back proper but the noise was still there thats why i didnt think it was the calipers until i changed the droplinks etc and found it was still there

Check the driveshaft locking cap. It's the bit that the split pin goes through Smile

no, checked all them lads, cant find anything loose atall when i jack the car up or anything that makes the same noise, only time i can hear it is when im driving on rough road, im only assuming its the calipers aswell because it goes when i press the brake pedal but im not 100%sure its them either...

there should be some removable clip things that hold the pads in place, they attach into the slots on the outer edge of the pad and they kinda look like opened up paper clips... Smile(they're not built into the pads tho)

that was the cause of my rattle anyways...

only got a chance to look at the brakes today, the springs are attached to the back of the pads and are present on all 4, it seems the caliper is just loose enough to rattle on rough ground, the bolts and all are thight its only when tipping the brake pedal that they thightin enough to stop making noise, is it just somthing ill have to put up with or could it be the slides wore or somthing??

just got some pics now, the only place i can feel play is in the 2 slide pins, when i hold the caliper on the inside around the brake hose connection and move it, theres the slightest looseness in the pins
