I have an X reg DTurbo which has had a few 'issues' with the rear beam. After problems with a replacement beam off a GTi I took the plunge and, at 117k miles, got my original beam refurbed (Retro Revival £450, good people). New rear axle mounts fitted at the same time as they were looking a little tired. At 125k I got similar symptoms as a knackered beam - knocking noises over poor road surfaces, back end feeling loose etc. tho' the position of rear wheels looked ok. Rear beam was checked out under warranty but it eventually turned out to be one of the front mounts. Only 5k miles later & Ive got the same symptoms again - I can't believe one of the mounts has gone again so quickly !(IIRC both were replaced - brand unknown but not OE). Is it possible that a badly warped brake disc will have contributed to this early failure?
(I recently discovered that the OS rear disc was warped and the NS corrdoded when checking them due to poor feel thru the pedal.)
Any way of confirming the problem is def one or other of the front mounts before I chuck yet more money at the car?
I'm assuming that they need to be replaced in pairs if one has failed. If so I might be tempted to lash out an extra £80 or so over Lemforder gear and go for Miles solid mounts if it will sort the problem for good.
Cheers
Rob

It will sort it for good and will vastly improve the feel of the car. If you had a badly warped rear disc that would cause the rear beam to twist on its mounts instead of pulling up true. Suprised its failed that quick though. Maybe it was faulty and the brake issue accelerated the filure. If you intend to stick with the car you cant go wrong fitting solid mounts mate. I don't make them refurb mounts anymore or I'd be trying to sell you a set of mine. Miles' ones are top quality and you wont regret fitting them. If you want to save a few quid Birk on here does remanufactured mounts in a similar style to my old ones, eirther way you won't want to go back to rubbery handling Wink

What make were the mounts you fitted? If they were QH then it will just be poor mounts.

Rear brakes make negligible difference imo unless these mounts were made from cheddar. I ate a set of rear pads in 600 miles once when one of my rear calipers was stuck on and my beam lasted another 65K after that at 180K. I fitted a replacement beam and banged on the Pug mounts that came with it as even though the old ones looked fine I knew they had 100K less on the new ones.

225K now and beam and mounts are fine. fit solid mounts and be done with it, Miles' mounts are excellent bits of kit. Pattern parts are shite generally.

motaquip jobbies will do the job if not gsf.

It was two companies that made them, PAULSTRA and RENNES B.T.

edit, bit of cross referencing pug to Citroen and it was the Paulstra mounts that were used on sport chassis.

That's the problem though. The sports models have stiffer rubber in the mounts which can only be sourced through Peugeot. A motor factor sourced OEM one will use the softer rubber found in the mounts for the lower models.

unless he physically gets the book out and orders the correct ones like my autofactors do?

plus the HDI isnt a sport model yet features the same mounts?

jeffers uses standard cheapy mounts on his track car and his are fine.
i use firstline for OE spec parts and havent ever had an issue or failure.

Thank you for proving my point - Fist Line list exactly the same mounts for all 306 models.

Peugeot supply firmer ones for the sport models.

anyway the op has a d turbo...
so any mount he gets given at factors will be fine.

it lasted 5k whos to say he hasent raped car for 5k?
tyres should last 10k but do they ever?
beam mounts are a consumable and a cheap one at that

It's an HDi DTurbo i.e. sports suspension. Mildly modified (eg the ECU has been tweaked but mainly for flexibilty) and rarely thrashed.
I can only assume that the replacement mounts were not OE as they were £55, as fitted by Retro Revival after I went back to them as I suspected the refurbed beam was going again. I prefer to use good quality aftermarket stuff and would have asked for Lemforder kit had I known the mounts were at fault. Seeing as RR checked over the beam and then fitted the mounts for nowt it would be churlish to complain. My only issue with RR is that they are 50 miles from me and (like me!) are in the middle of nowhere...
If it is the mounts I will most likley go for solids, esp given info from Rich - and will prob. be having a crack at it myself. But I still don't know 100% that it is. Is there any way of confirming without dropping the beam to check - as I only want to do that the once ...?
