I removed mine when I converted my 309 Gti,and a couple of forum users reckon you lose torqueBlink
But I searched the net and the info I found said the only thing resonators do is reduce noiseWink
Pretty sure they are called Helmholtz ResonatorsSmile

not quite. it is to do with air cavities and peugeot designed it so a consistent airflow balance is taken in. its not just about the noise but yes it is for that too. you have your nice smooth torque curve to thank for it

sure, it'll work fine without it, but it isn't there for comical value. if it wasn't needed.....

theres one coming off the airbox aswell

Yes helmholtz , ive turned into a bit of a perfectionist and want to make sure that my engine is functioning as close to standard as possible with minimal losses, would you recommend I put one back on? As when I first got the car I did feel like it lacked a bit of torque down low

the torque thing I have heard mention of before, try it!

if only there was a 6 owner with a RR to hand, we could see what difference this and advancing cams and fitting induction kits made LOL

(apart from noise...)

Have you got the info on Pug designing it to hand by any chance??????Smile

If not I'll stick with the info I found that says its all noise relatedBig grin

Remove it and see the noise difference then..

Tell a lie - they aren't used just on peugeots. They are used on jet engines and lots of other applications too. They aren't just for noise. I swapped an inlet to one with a bung in once before buying the resonator and noise wasn't any different tbh

Usually both to cancel out unpleasant resonance notes and to to help fill in dips in the torque curve that the camshaft + inlet manifold length gives, albeit usually at the slight expense of peak torque.

So to summarise: yes it does you a load of good and removing it is barely a boredom exercise?

Depends, sometimes if you've altered the head/manifold or cams they'll hurt performance as they're no longer matched with each other - in that case I'd bin it, standard car with bolt on bits? Probably not.

Be interesting to see a back to back on the dyno.

Have removed mine and binges it then made the airbox completely air tight and found that you get a slight induction noise from the snorkel. I also found better throttle response.

im trying to get to the route of this on my thread Razz

looks like back to back no ones done it.

could be an interesting one if i turn up to pugfest. (we get a rolling road dont we?)
seeing as to convert between the 4 possible comibinations will take all of 5 minutes Razz

No rolling road there last year?Unsure

I've removed mine on the Rallye, and also the one fitted to airbox and blanked off the hole into airbox, modded snorkel to make a 'ram-air' effect into airbox, fitted a RamAir induction kit inside the standard airbox Wink
At a recent rolling road day mine did 180bhp(highest of the day on standard inlet/injectionBig grin )and also highest torque figureWink
Other mods are Magnex de-cat and systemSmile

So I still stick with the info I found the resonator is for noise reductionRazz

to put it simply hemoltz resonators balance out air distribution to each cylinder. The calculations can get very complicated, but it does do something and can be quite important on tuned engines running plenum chambers.
