I fitted a pair of these (copy 'n' paste the link below) on the front of the Rallye the evening before we had a shed load of snow dumped on us in Glossop. Although I'm self employed and normally work 40 odd miles away in Darwen, luckily I can do a bit of work from home whilst the weathers real bad, but i still need to get the missus to the train station and on both mornings with a good few inches on the ground and other cars proper struggling I had no problems, on the first day I even tried a couple of brake tests on the compacted snow and had to proper jump on the anchors before the ABS kicked in.

Left my rainsports on the rear though, didn't want to take all the fun out of winter driving Wink

All in all for £120 fitted there well worth it IMHO, especially if the snow comes down heavy whilst I'm at my workshop.

I think it's a good idea, I've looked into a pair but I'm a cheapskate so probably won't.

I wanted something that I can be left on all winter, coupled with the fact that in snow you want plenty of deep tread. So part worns are a waste of money, its also why you can easily buy cheap 2nd hand rally tyres Wink

i wouldnt neccessarily say a waste or money , they will still be better than any road tyre you could buy and being a gravel tyre will have shed loads of tread, so even if a little worn it will still have more tread than a road tyre.

its like buying second hand slicks, depending on source they will have just been used for qualifying or practice so prob only seen 8 laps at most, leaving more than enough for trackdays etc.
all depends on the source

gravel tyres arent much use in this stuff, they do need to be road tyres intended for winter use.

Compound is too hard with gravel tyres, ice/forest tyres work fairly well though.
