hi peeps, praying here someone can help! My 6 has become dangerous around right hand bends of any angle at any speed. It behaves as if i'm pulling the handbrake on whilst going through the corner, throwing the back end out completely. I found this out on a gentle right bend at twenty mph. I have been to an industrial estate tonight to test that the corner it happened on may have just been greasy but it is happening on any right hand bend. The brakes are not stuck on, all drop links and ball joints and track rod ends have been replaced within the last month and i've checked that none are loose. There is a knock whilst turning the wheel to the right when moving. Please please help! If anyone has any ideas i will be eternally grateful________________________________________ Official diagnosis: Carpocondria - The persistent conviction that one's motor vehicle is or is likely to become ill |

Who said anything about locking up?+1 for rear beam mounts, most likely the forward pair of the four mounts. I had a spin at about 20mph when my mounts were knackered ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

sorry guys, the knocking noise comes from near side front. It's not all the way round the lock, just one loud clunk about halfway to right lock. Is there an easy way of checking the rear beam mounts as i can get access to a ramp tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the advice by the way________________________________________ Official diagnosis: Carpocondria - The persistent conviction that one's motor vehicle is or is likely to become ill |

hovis16 wrote: "pulling the hand break" locking up He didn't mean literally locking up I too have a clunk I need to investigate tomorrow, but it only seems to do it with the whole weight of the car so dunno how i'm going to replicate it. As another note, check the strut top mounts too ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

i had checked the front springs yesterday when i was checking strut tops to find the source of the knocking. They weren't broken and were seated properly. I think the rear mounts are a crackin suggestion as the handling has felt a little bit 'wobbly' over the last month. The back end hasn't felt planted for a while now, so will check them tomorrow. Thanks for everything guys, have got a good idea of what to check tomorrow________________________________________ Official diagnosis: Carpocondria - The persistent conviction that one's motor vehicle is or is likely to become ill |

Could also be beam bearings making a trailing arm move around and give you random camber. The clunk could be a driveshaft or top mount. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

I've just checked strut top mounts and they're fine, no movement in driveshafts and no play in rear bearings so have got both sets of rear beam mounts for 30 quid all in from local motor factors. Will fit them tomorrow morning and hopefully things will have improved! If not i'd better start watchin tokyo drift and take notes on how to drive it as it is________________________________________ Official diagnosis: Carpocondria - The persistent conviction that one's motor vehicle is or is likely to become ill |
