Whatever speakers you put in the front doors, make sure you preserve the plastic/foam behind the speaker. If you don't water will drop down from the window rubber onto the back of the new speaker and run down into the bottom of the door card. You will then find yourself with a footwell full of water!
This is my setup;
Alpine CDA-9853R Head unit.
4 standard peugeot speakers.
2 genuine Peugeot tweeters with the adapters for mirror blanks.
12" Alpine subwoofer.
The Alpine head unit has an active crossover. The crossover limits the frequencies delivered to the outputs. each channel is controlled independantly. Each speaker pair can be driven by the frequencies for wich they have been optimally designed.
I filter out all the lower frequencies to the 4 standard speakers so they do not deal with producing any bass tones.
The sub has it's own channel to deal with the bass.
The tweeters are wired to piggyback the front door speakers. The tweeters have a built in crossover to only deal with the higher frequencies.
The Alpine headunit is very basic to look at but does it's job so well. This setup for me is perfect because each speaker is in it's comfort zone wich means you can turn it right up without risk of damaging any of the speakers. Also the sub can be remotely turned up/down/off with the rotary knob. Handy if you have a headache!
Basically my head unit makes the best of the standard speakers wich produce a very good loud sound without distorting when filtered properly.
The peugeot tweeters are very good in my opinion and are invisible with the adapters.
This head unit also has time correction which delays the sound coming from the speakers closest to the listener. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. The listener can be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimal staging. What a mouthful!
