Hi,

I have a few sets of door speakers lying around the garage and this weekend decided to try and fit a pair to the front doors. However after attempting to fit these speakers I found that all were too deep, or the magnet was too big!

My question is, what are the "best" direct replacements to the current speakers? I am more than happy to have to re-wire and if needs be cut a little of the door card (only) away. I am also thinking or putting some tweeters somewhere too, but not until I have sorted these front speakers.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Cheers,

Joe5y

I have infinity Kappa components in mine, need to cut a bit of door card away and fit on mdf ring, should fit ok as it is the original door card fitting angle that gives the depth fitting issue iirc.

I know there are some Alpine and JBL ones that fit OK and don't require use of the forum's favourite structural material at the moment (wood). LOL Other people have used them, sure they must be in the search?

Yep, Alpine SXE's is what I have in the doors and parcel shelf, a massive improvement over the standard items. Can't remember the exact model name, but look like these:

Easily available from your local Halfrauds, but I got mine second hand on eBay for about £15 a pair

If I'm not too late I have some Alpines with seperate tweeters spare from when I upgraded from them a while ago. Do you want me to have a look for them to see what condition they are in? I wouldn't want much for them and they are a direct fit. They look like the ones in the link above I seem to remember.

EDIT: This is them when fitted:

A lot of people have used them in place of standard mate.
Mine are still in the front, not amped and they are ok as replacements over standard but I don't think their anything special tbh.

I am currently looking at getting some infinity ref coax speakers all round running off the HU.
I have a thread below this one but nobody likes me Cry LOL

Might get a little active sub as well to add a little bit of boom LOL

Whatever speakers you put in the front doors, make sure you preserve the plastic/foam behind the speaker. If you don't water will drop down from the window rubber onto the back of the new speaker and run down into the bottom of the door card. You will then find yourself with a footwell full of water!

This is my setup;

Alpine CDA-9853R Head unit.

4 standard peugeot speakers.

2 genuine Peugeot tweeters with the adapters for mirror blanks.

12" Alpine subwoofer.

The Alpine head unit has an active crossover. The crossover limits the frequencies delivered to the outputs. each channel is controlled independantly. Each speaker pair can be driven by the frequencies for wich they have been optimally designed.

I filter out all the lower frequencies to the 4 standard speakers so they do not deal with producing any bass tones.

The sub has it's own channel to deal with the bass.

The tweeters are wired to piggyback the front door speakers. The tweeters have a built in crossover to only deal with the higher frequencies.

The Alpine headunit is very basic to look at but does it's job so well. This setup for me is perfect because each speaker is in it's comfort zone wich means you can turn it right up without risk of damaging any of the speakers. Also the sub can be remotely turned up/down/off with the rotary knob. Handy if you have a headache!

Basically my head unit makes the best of the standard speakers wich produce a very good loud sound without distorting when filtered properly.
The peugeot tweeters are very good in my opinion and are invisible with the adapters.

This head unit also has time correction which delays the sound coming from the speakers closest to the listener. This effectively creates a perception of increased distance for those speakers. The listener can be placed at an equal distance between the left and right speakers for optimal staging. What a mouthful!
