finally get round to sorting out the car took the struts to the garage to get the top mounts off after failing myself

and he used the damper adjusters to get the nut off instead of just using an air impact gun

now i'm left with,...



How the hell do I plug it till i can afford to get it replaced?

Hang on!

The mechanic broke off your dampening adjuster and isnt paying for it??

or am missing something?

you dont plug it.... you go to the garage and tell them to replace it!

It was just a case of me calling round leaving it 30 mins then coming back there's no proof I was even there I could go see him but really I don't have a leg to stand on :-/

just put cling film over it and store upright somewhere.

Wrap ptfe tape around a bolt & screw it into the nut, but I wouldn't drive it anywhere!!!

you have the strut and pics of the damage as evidence, maybie even a withdrawral slip from cashpoint?

Nothing is going to plug that and stop the fluid coming out, the pressure when you hit something like a pothole is high enough to pop anything you put on there straight off.

no pix of it prior to been broken,

drew £20 from cash point next door though


I couldnt really ask anyone on here because the car was on axle stands and i had to carry the struts to the closest garage I could think of failing to get them off myself Sad

I cant screw anything into it because it appears to be a thin metal bar that's snapped so the oil is p*ssing up from around it, could I use some sort of gasket sealant?

No, you'll never get it to stick with the oil there, and if you try to use it there's a good few hundred psi or so of pressure there anyway, it'd never take it - I'm guessing it's snapped where the o-ring is?

It's no good running on them when the oil's p*ssed out anyway, you'll just do more damage, as it is it shouldn't cost much more than 30-40 quid to have that fixed.

just called the garage

in his own words,

Me: I came to see you yesterday with the yellow shocks and you snapped the nipple on

Him: yeah,

Me: well that part is just to adjust the damper,

Him: that top part is just to grip the top to stop it from spinning,

Me: no it's not not it's a damper adjuster,
you should have just used an air gun on them
now oil is p*ssing out of them

him: where abouts?

Me: from the hole where you snapped the nipple off

Him: well what do you want me to do about it?

Me: we are you covered by insurance?

Him: you must be joking I did you a favour

Me: a favour that has cost me the struts and the use of my car,

Him: dont want to know Bye,....



Do I go round and knock his teeth out?

if its only £30 fix as phill says it is then your likely to get it from them.

Try Koni themselves first, see if they offer rebuilds.

Failing that I think that shaft is the same size as the early Gaz units Hmm

shame you couldnt record convo,

you now have the call log,
cash withdrawral slip,
broken item.

id be taking a walk down there fella and reteiving the money , if not threaten him with Citizens advice , and mention tax evasion.

if he says he aint avoiding tax and hes putting through till then even better as it becomes a proper paid service , so you will deffo be covered.

alternatively , run by the workshop and lob a brick through the workshop door at the first car you see then leg it usain bolt styleeee

No, it'll have to be a suspension specialist, or perhaps a hydraulics firm, it's a ground spring steel shaft that goes all the way down into the piston with a tapered needle ground on the end, detents for the clicker and a pair of o-ring grooves, so it's easier just to send it to someone who'll have one on the shelf.

do you know of any by you? sheffield etc
apparently non here in Leeds,

Koni Sports line say £70 to fix them

i'll have to go put the old suspention back on for now Sad
