well folks, what would be the best cams to get for the 6 without having to do any work on the pistons so the'll have clearance and what would be the rough expected gains along with an induction kit and decat which i already have? also would it have to be remapped with milder cams as nowhere in this sh*thole of a country will remap the standard ecu ________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

I'm running Kent PT81's. Opinions seem divided about the inherent risks of these without pocketed pistons, especially your head has been skimmed etc,(do a search - loads of info on this) but i've had them in for about a year without problems. As for remapping, Wayne Schofield of Chipwizards can remap the standard ECU (he did mine). I have standard induction, and made 184bhp ________________________________________ Rallye-RNurburgring article |

yes, my head has been skimmed, but my valve seats were recut too so i think i regained a little clearance with that.Yes the power is good. it comes on pretty strong around 4k as it always did, but then the cams really come to life at 5k+ (vtec-esq almost) I dont suppose its anything like as hard hitting as say your supercharged boys, but it updates the car nicely. ________________________________________ Rallye-RNurburgring article |

I will be putting my newman ph2 cams in this week, so will let you know, i will also be booking a remap with chip wizards as he seems to have had the most experience. i think these cams are very similar to pt81's ________________________________________ if i dont see you in the mattress il see you in the spring |

what sort of gain should be expected from pt81s or simalar cams. im running 178bhp and my engine is standard.it does not seem worth nearly a grand for only 6bhp. ________________________________________ 178bhp 205gti6¼ mile in 14.2 |

How much torque are you lot with cams getting then? BHp doesn't really mean a great deal if the torque isn't increasing significantly as well imo.________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

is there any cams that can actually be used if the head has been skimmed without piston work?________________________________________ IF YOU CAN READ THIS IM STILL IN 5TH!!! |

monkgti wrote: is there any cams that can actually be used if the head has been skimmed without piston work? I'm sure the kent PT80 or Newman phase1 would meet that criteria, but you'd have to ask yourself if its worth it for such small gains. I guess it depends what your goal is - to make the car faster or quicker? That may sound like a stupid thing to say, but bare in mind you can make a car much quicker on road or track by changing suspension/reducing weight/buying decent tyres....without it generating more power ________________________________________ Rallye-RNurburgring article |

PeterT stage I inlet cam should fit with no drama, he regrinds the standard cam to give longer duration but lift stays the same, so as long as the timing isn't way off it should cause no drama. As for mapping i'm going to be a sheep and use Wayne too, despite my earlier kicking and screaming That's the route i'm going down. Emailing him as we speak and I have a spare inlet cam on order to ship over to him. I'll let you know prices when it's all arranged. ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

ive been considering a piper fast road regrind, send them your cams (or a spare set) and for £250 they will grind them to fast road spec.http://www.pipercams.co.uk/pipercams/www/product.php?pid=GTI6BP270H And he did say that if 5 or more people wanted some they would talk about a **GROUP BUY** discount. ________________________________________ banned for drifting. back in the s**tbox scene. |

PeterT's is probably the cheapest of the lot, a regrind is about $150AUS. Add on £70 for shipping (£35 each way) and about £20 for a spare cam and you can get it back on your doorstep for about £170. Don't quote me on this but with the mods i have i'm hoping for 10-15bhp after a remap, hopefully get me up near the 190bhp mark. ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |
