Hi all
After just discovering i can gain extra bhp/torque by retiming my inlet cam (yes, i do have adjustable pullies!) i am now trying to find out how many degrees i can SAFELY advance the timing and where can i get a timing disc from?

i have done a search but could not find any detailed info
cheers

Half a cambelt tooth at the MOST, so maybe only a couple of degrees. BHP shouldn't increase but max will be slightly lower down the range, however realistically you're looking at an extra 10lbft if you do it properly Thumbs up

I did it by guesstimation and bricked it when I first turned it over LOL

half a tooth is actually about 4.25 degrees on the cam wheel which I guess is where the 5 degree figure has come from, though as you say its more like 2.125 as they run at half crank speed.

I slackened off the cam pulley, turned camshaft clockwise, then tightened up the pulley again.

I have the 3-bolt pulleys though, not as simple on the 1-bolt pulleys

i have the 3 bolt pulley too.
did you notice gain straight away or did you have to put miles on the clock so the ecu 'self learned'?

if you disconnect the battery whilst you do the work it'll self learn in the first short drive.

I done mine by turning the crank anti clock wise slightly and tried it a wee bit at a time till I I dared not to go any further. To be honest I think it was a waste of time (for my standard engine)..... Probably get better results from giving the car a good service
