hi all, just wanted to know about something thats getting to me,had the tapping on my 6 so i had the head of only to find out there was no bent valves? but have been told that the guides on the exhaust side have all got too much play in them,so i will replace them all, just wanted to know would this be why it is tapping as i have had all the other possible other signs checked, as in lifters and such valves are all fine, and inlet guides are fine too ________________________________________ french foreverT859HFC now gone T534 KVR now new home |

How have the valves been checked? Often the bend is so slight it is not detectable without a dti, lifters very rarely fail on these engines..... Oh and I find it hard to believe that all the exhaust guides need replacing.... My bets on a valve still it's just finding it.....________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! The only way to check for very slightly bent valves is to give each valve a light lap, if each valve cleans up all the way round your fine, if your unlucky like me you will find two valves that only clean up half way round that needed chucking in the bin.....Check my project thread out for further details & pics ________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

Deano, your missing my point, you won't know if any of the valves are bent until you try to lap them!!________________________________________ Get used to seeing the yellow one !!!Team 330™ Team "no front end or engine" Team "LIMITED EDITION" I live for the 306 sticker Team 0-60 in 6.44 & standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph all with std engine 203bhp Corolla T-Sport daily driver stealthier than Kwai Chang Caine |

As wayne says, lap the valves in lightly, you will soon spot the bent ones! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! Now appearing at a Trackday near you!! |
