My standard Clarion unit can be powered on without the ignition on.

I moved the fuse from the 1A position to the 1 position but it still happens

All wiring appears to be genuine pug.....any ideas on what to check or look for so I can only use it when ignition is on ?

On the wires going to the head unit there should be a red wire and a yellow wire. If you swap them around so its red to yellow and yellow to red this should solve the problem. (or if they are that way already put them back to red to red yellow to yellow).
Coming out of the head unit each wire usually has about a 2 inch length then a bullet type connector so its easy to swap them around.
If you pull the head unit out and have a look you will see what I mean...

[EDIT] sorry just noticed you said stranded head unit. Not sure if this section of wire is used on the standard unit. worth a check anyways...

I've looked at a couple of threads and the FAQ with regards to the fuse in position 1 / 1A

I've switched the fuse to both of these and it still won't cure the problem.

If it is standard like this (not known of one before) then I'll just live with it
