Thats the brief, is it possible? Obviously putting larger boxes on should bring down the noise but will that also restrict power?________________________________________ Just Drive It |

haha.. you seem my predicament..the longer it takes for gases to exit.. the less power.. so the more space (in a box) the slower the exit from it.. ________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6NV Motorsport Automotive Performance Tuning 0121 448 7515 ECU Remapping/ DPF removal VAG/BMW Diag and Option Coding Peugeot Planet ECU coding/transponder programming etc www.nvmotorsport.com Facebook Page Project S6 |

A certain amount of back pressure is needed to help the air flow better, so simply putting a massive 5" straight through exhaust would reduce power. However you are right that it will be hard to increase power without making it louder. The simplest form would be a remap. This shouldnt affect noise levels much if any at all. Secondly, some exhaust systems can be custom made that flow better and are still quietish because of different designs and materials used in the boxes. Another good one is turbo, as the turbo seems to dampen most of the noise before it enters the exhaust. ________________________________________ 309 GTi6-T |

Yep, been there.. initially my H&S system was too loud (but only at certain revs.. the exact revs I sat on the motorway ). As we worked through the options, Ian's advice was to leave the centre section alone as messing with that would restrict power the most - and work on the rear box where there was more scope as the gasses are cooler back there (or I think that's how I remember him explaining it). By dumping the spare wheel (which I'd pretty much decided to dump anyway) he built me a larger rear box that ate into the former spare cage area - net result much more acceptable and no loss of power (I did some back to back 0-100 tests on the old runway to check ). ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Thanks mike, i havent had a spare wheel or the cage for 6 years so i think your way is the best option Oddly enough my car is better on the motorway with the decat on, will sit at 80 with minimal noise, just every other speed where it sounds like the apocalypse ________________________________________ Just Drive It |
